White House hits Johnson for going on recess without passing Ukraine aid
The Hill via Yahoo ^ | February 15th, 2024 | Alex Gangitano

The White House on Thursday bashed Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for starting the House recess without bringing the Senate-passed Ukraine aid package to the floor for a vote.

The Senate early Tuesday approved a bipartisan funding measure providing aid to Ukraine, Israel and other allies with 70 votes.

But Johnson says the Senate bill lacks the tougher border security measures demanded by House Republicans and that he won’t move it in the lower chamber.

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates argued in a memo, first obtained by The Hill, that Johnson is cutting and running early to go on recess “instead of ending the harm he’s doing to our national security.”

“Every day that Speaker Johnson causes our national security to deteriorate, America loses. And every day that he puts off a clean vote, congressional Republicans’ standing with the American people plunges,” Bates said. “Running away for an early vacation only worsens both problems.”

House GOP leadership canceled votes for Friday, and the House will return to Washington on Feb. 28 after the President’s Day recess. Bates noted the split out of D.C. also comes days after former Rep. Tom Suozzi (D) won in a New York special election, flipping a GOP-held seat.

But it’s ok when the border isn’t secure and they go on vacation or in the post election they go on vacation, when the election was full of fraud.

I think Mike Johnson thinks a Long game...And that means if we don't pass HR2 first....we'll never stop the invasion.

I'm now seeing the Media start....they'll probably lose the house...ahhhh...mind control...

“The measure can come up for a vote when the border is closed”

And NOT BEFORE.

We have no National security interests in Ukraine.

We might have some, but they are far overshadowed by the flood of illegals crossing the border. Our security should come first. Pass a strong border security bill and then we can talk about Ukraine’s and Israel’s security. I realize that ‘putting America first’ is akin to hate speech now, but isn’t Congress expected to put our interests ahead of foreingers’

I think it’s great. No need to pretend this slush fund bill is an urgent matter. Ukraine is down for regardless.

They were threatening an end run around the Speaker. I’d say he played the hand they dealt, masterfully. Stay in recess until the wall is finished and deportations are in full swing. The end.

I was thinking along the same lines. They were going to try to go around him. He stopped it in its tracks. LOL!!!

I don’t trust yahoo or the Hill as far as i could throw them, so I’m not buying this BS..... but if Johnson really said this. then it’s a big concern...
.
“ Johnson communicated his likely intention to proceed with that option at a private meeting last week with Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., who is an ally of Johnson’s.Dividing the aid package in two would allow one bipartisan coalition of lawmakers — Republicans and most Democrats — to pass the Israel aid and another coalition — Democrats and more hawkish Republicans — to pass the Ukraine measure.”

A really unfortunate aspect of the House being on vacation until the end of the month is that Putin will be very happy to celebrate no help for Ukraine. I think we can be quite certain that Putin is planning some major celebration, or massive attack on Ukraine, for the second anniversary of his unsuccessful attack on Kiev and the heart of Ukraine on Feb. 24th. Or maybe he will ignore that failure, and just celebrate all the destruction he has caused in eastern Ukraine and Crimea.

After all, his main goal has been to steal the underground resources of coal and iron in eastern Ukraine, and natural gas and petroleum there and surrounding Crimea. Putin doesn’t care he is flattening the Ukraine cities, he just wants to prevent Ukraine from providing these resources to the rest of Europe as part of his plan to build a greater Eurasia controlled by Russia. Hopefully we will never need those resources. See below:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics This book was written by a man referred to as “Putin’s Brain” and outlines the plan now being followed by Putin in great detail.

The biggest disaster for the Republicans would be images of Russian troops marching into Kiev.
