Because grocery stores are bastions of high profits and huge dividends.

Kroger, the largest chain that isn’t Walmart or Costco has a profit margin of 22%. Apple has a profit margin of 25%. Googles is 25%. Microsoft’s is about 40%+.

Is he asking ALL of those companies to cut their profit margins?

And what is, I wonder, an “acceptable” profit margin? Raytheon is about 10%. GM is 6%. Should the be raising their rates to make more profit?

“Kroger, the largest chain that isn’t Walmart or Costco has a profit margin of 22%. “

Kroger’s net profit (Nov 2023) was 1.9%, not 22%.

Don't know where you are getting your information from but it is wrong. 2.2% maybe in a good year.

You’re comparing Kroger’s gross profit margin (sales minus inventory expenses) versus the other companies’ net profit margins. Once you add in the cost of running the stores and paying the employees Kroger’s drops to around 2% for the net. Microsoft’s gross profit margin was almost 70%.

I worked in Kroger Divisional offices in past years.
NEVER have heard of ANY such profit margins.

22% NOT happening.

MAYBE 2.2%
