'Serious national security threat' is revealed to be 'Russia wanting to put a nuclear weapon in SPACE'

The U.S. believes Russia wants to put a nuclear weapon in space, according to reports sparked by a top Republican warning about a 'serious national security threat'.

House Intel Chair Rep. Mike Turner of Ohio said members of Congress had been made aware of the threat which is reported to be related to Russia and its threat from space - but wouldn't go into details.

It later emerged that it was related to Moscow's plan to put a nuclear weapon into space to target and destroy satellites the world depends on, ABC News reported.

Turner asked the president to declassify the information so lawmakers could discuss the ramifications in the ominous warning that sparked a response from the White House and furious speculation.

Moscow has already shown how it can be lethal from space by testing a hit-to-kill anti-satellite missile in 2021.

Russia smashed a defunct spy satellite launched in 1982 into 1,500 pieces of debris in the strike and sparked fury around the world.

Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., was one of the first lawmakers to view the documents in the SCIF on Wednesday afternoon.

He told reporters that the threat is 'not an immediate crisis but certainly something we have to be very serious about.'

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Wednesday he was 'surprised' Turner came publicly about the threat related to a 'destabilizing foreign military capability.'

'That's been on the books. So I am a bit surprised that Congressman Turner came out publicly today in advance of a meeting on the books for me to go sit with him alongside our intelligence and defense professionals tomorrow,

We never had rods from God deployed. And if you did the math, you would understand why. Besides costing billions and a list of other impracticalities, they are not as ‘impactful’ as Popular Mechanics would have you believe.

"For pete sakes...this is NOT NEW."

Apparently Rep. Turner was enjoying himself too much in college in the 1980's to even pay attention to Reagan and SDI.

It is true that if we lose GPS, you would likely lose cell phone service, due to its dependence on GPS for timing.

Exactly. Nothing on the ground is more than 8 minutes from space once it’s on a booster. And it has the advantage of being able to be put where you want it.

A nuke in space is slightly useful for a ground attack by reducing available response time but you can accomplish the same thing with a submarine.

I’m concerned about the nukes on the Russian subs loitering a couple hundred miles off our coasts.

I can’t prove they are deployed since I have no “need to know” that.

Probably some US spy satellite saw an oxen in Russia carrying a maintenance team to scrape off the rust on an old system.

This whole topic is absurd.

By ‘the whole topic being absurd’, I presume you mean it being brought up as a concern by the congressional committee. I tend to agree if its just somebody overheard that some russian leadership was discussing it. Until actions are taking place to make it happen, its just a watch item.

With all of our enemies lined up against us in Washington DC and many state capitols I lose exactly zero sleep worrying about what the Russians are doing.

Some think that a tungsten Rod of God is what were used to take down the WTC Towers.
