Kuwait was just a product of British map makers after WWI.

If they are sovereign, though small, why can’t they pay for pensions and operations of government / but must beg for assistance to run the country?

Point taken but who ultimately judges the justice of such divisions and creations following world wars? There are examples that seem to have worked out and many that proved troubling and unstable over time. Tito’s Yugoslavia for one.

Because Russian attacks have ruined much of their economy, much more has had to be diverted into the military, etc. What do you think such a war would do to a nations finances?

I do not identify myself as a liberal democrat can I and the people who share my belief secede? One of the tragedies of the modern world is the concept of “identify”.

Life is messy. Ukraine chose a path that it was able to walk because of outsiders who say a way to get rich by exploiting the conflict. Russia has been intransient through recent history, maneuvering to retain control over the Ukraine.

It is a measure of the morally bankrupt organizations that govern world affairs that the situation has developed into full fledged war. The Croatian War of Independence was a similar conflict.

War is a tragedy.
The story is the shading and massaging of facts cobbled together in an attempt to codify a narrative.

I wonder what is the cost to Russia of this lost ship and crew? Is it even replaceable by them given current International relationships and sanctions? And again, the only way I see Ukraine getting to a better place to negotiate terms of a peace is stepped up asymmetric warfare using massive amounts of drone type operations. They won’t get to a better negotiating place using men and equipment that they dont have and wont be getting in sufficient numbers ever. Even asymmetric drone warfare, to be enough to move them to a better negotiating place will require much more in drone supply and support. Is the West massively stepping up their production/procurement of these for the Ukes? If not, why not and what is the real purpose of this support and war from the West’s perspective?

Oh, so you’re good with using military force to dynamically adjust national borders?

Now with nuclear weapons. This should be fun - living in your world.

So much for the lessons of the last two world wars.

Since Russia and Russians are good with that say goodbye to Siberia cuz, well, it’s former Chinese territory. China has nuclear weapons too. So deterrence. And a greater conventional army than Russia’s. Bye Siberia.

Thereafter Japan reclaims Sakhalin.

If Russia doesn’t respect its neighbor’s borders why should its neighbors respect Russia’s? They shouldn’t -and won’t.

If they are “sovereign” over their former territories but powerless, and can’t pay their own bills to operate their own government, or defend themselves without one of the largest donated military budgets in world history, they aren’t sovereign.

Kuwait was a British protectorate before WWI - 1899. And they were never an Ottoman province (unlike Iraq), they were one of many Arabian tribal sheikhdoms, as Arabia had no effective central government.

The Saudis were also, at the time, another such independent sheikhdom.

But they acquired an independent identity subsequently.

This happens.

Hong Kong also acquired an identity, but its protector (also Britain) withdrew. HK alone could not stand against China. A tragedy really, HK was a very interesting place.

So Finland was not sovereign? Are only countries that can go toe to toe with Russia (or China) sovereign?

Your definitions are curious, to say the least.

Reality is painful.
Force has been used to adjust borders throughout history. The animal kingdom operates similarly.
The real problem with your position is that it suggests that there is a omnipotent world policeman who decides right & wrong and controls outcomes. That is the world I don’t want to live in.

Modern technologies such as stealthy drone, precise GPS have made naval surface combatants, almost all armor and helicopters in a combat zone essentially obsolete. Yet many brave young men will die in iron coffins before the battleship admirals and the cavalry generals come to learn these lessons.

You don’t want to live in a world of rules, laws and respect for others? Fine. So Might=Right. Got it. Don’t call the cops when your car gets stolen, you’re mugged, CHAZ comes to your neighborhood, Lord of the Flies, etc. etc.

Russians and Ukrainians are distinct peoples. Even the Russians have recognized this since 1917. The right of the Ukrainians to claim independence was guaranteed in the Soviet constitution and the Russian Federation recognized Ukrainian independence with the fall of the Soviet Union. What right do the Russians have to rule over the Ukrainians?

Valentine’s Day gift for Putin

In that part of the world, Orthodox Christians observe Valentine's Day on July 6.

Are you for real or farina?
Moronic reducto to absurdity.
Within Nation we have rules that are supposed to be upheld. Obviously in today’s world they aren’t. Our Nation’s rules don’t cover other Nations nor the relations between Nations.

If you ever had any education in world politics it left you a tabula rasa. Relations between Nations are at a kindergarten or lesser level of morality. A weak person thinks there is right & wrong and that someone needs to play hall monitor.

The international law of the seabed is a perfect illustration. Nations that cannot protect their sea borders pushed for broad borders, up to 200 nautical miles, to be protected internationally so that someone does their fighting for them. Nations that do protect their borders advanced the concept of narrow borders that can be self defended. The UN created an International Seabed Authority boldly asserting “rights” that the involved Nations could not defend. The UN is a force for conflict and coruption.
