New York City could soon ban detergent pods across the five boroughs in the latest “green” push from lawmakers.
The “Pods are Plastic Bill,” introduced by City Councilman James Gennaro last week, would make it illegal to sell any pods and laundry sheets if they’re made with polyvinyl alcohol.
Fines for selling the pods would start at $400, double for a second violation and top off at $1,200 for flouting the rules more than twice, if the bill becomes law. The bill would also require education and outreach to businesses on the ban for the first year.
The law wouldn’t take effect until Jan. 1, 2026, if passed.

“Some swarthy guy with scraggly hair in Times Square can open his raincoat and offer an array of illegal detergent pods.”
Instead of cheap umbrellas when it rains and counterfeit Gucci stuff.
Good one.
I admit my description might have been applied to Bernie Sanders or some CNN types.
Go to Westchester or Nassau and buy them there. Or order them online.
This is the stupidity of politicians. Maybe they are trying to be evil to inconvenience the public. But this is idiocy.
Detergent pods are made from polyvinyl alcohol.
Polyvinyl alcohol does not leave micro plastics as claimed; it is water soluble.
The alcohol groups are metabolized by bacteria, the acetate groups eventually hydrolyze to acetate and alcohol, both of which are metabolized by microorganisms.
PVA is very environmentally friendly and pods are much lighter to transport than are liquids plus there is no bottle made of PET, PP or PE which do create micro plastics.

Damn, what is my girlfriend doing on the internet again? I told her to stop showing off! lol lol
Thirty years I lived in Baldwin NY and my neighbor had a wife just like that, totally into fitness I use to be dying everytime I saw her and she would show off wearing these cut off shirts that showed her belly and these tiny shorts. And the thing is her husband was ugly as hell, huge nose, bald, bad teeth, skinny as hell and not even rich, me and my friends could never understand that. We came to the conclusion he must be endowed like a horse LOL
That jerky Kennedy did really say that didn’t he. I remember he gave some speech and he kept spitting which grossed everybody out. Another brainless Kennedy, just what we need.
1968 Detroit Riot had a more widespread effect, probably as a panic reaction to 1967. Parents and schools, in an area within a radius of forty miles from the center of Detroit, clamped down on the freedom to roam - kids and students. Also, curfews. Limited recess. Monitored playing fields.
Paradise is just one more ban away!
Nanny State PING!
The Greens know better than you about EVERYTHING!
Our benevolent government is looking out for our best interests.
Ban detergent pods!
Psssssst... wanna buy some pods???
These heal the world, make it a better place idealists are just so awesome. I still remember the words of Rush Limbaugh… Don’t judge them by their results judge them by their good intentions. They meant well supposedly. Weather everything backfires and there’s nothing left other than a smoldering pile of rubble and bad consequences is irrelevant.
