I can’t imagine Reagan allowing Iran to attack our troops 160 times before we finally decided to do something more than blow up huts & insignificant buildings in the middle of nowhere.

Reagan couldn’t get the U.S. military out of Lebanon fast enough after the bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983.
I’m sure he came out of that more than a little humbled — because he had been warned by some of his senior advisors (including his Secretary of Defense, I believe) not to send them there in the first place.

Good point; Reagan knew when to get them out. (It's hard to imagine a man of his stature having Americans serve in a foreign country without the permission of its government and in complete violation of international law; there's no way he would have Americans in Syria.)
