Special counsel fights judge’s order allowing Trump to reveal witness identities in Mar-a-Lago case

Special counsel Jack Smith is asking Judge Aileen Cannon to reconsider a ruling that would allow former President Trump’s legal team to publicly disclose witness identities and their testimony to the court docket.

Trump’s lawyers have sought to attach evidence given to them during the discovery process in other court filings set to be publicly posted in connection with the Mar-a-Lago documents case.

The Justice Department argued late Thursday that Cannon erred in her legal rationale for allowing them to do so, a decision they say risks exposing some two dozen witnesses to harassment, as she requires no redactions.

“That discovery material, if publicly docketed in unredacted form as the Court has ordered, would disclose the identities of numerous potential witnesses, along with the substance of the statements they made to the FBI or the grand jury, exposing them to significant and immediate risks of threats, intimidation, and harassment,” prosecutors wrote in the 22-page filing.

It’s something they say “has already happened to witnesses, law enforcement agents, judicial officers, and Department of Justice employees whose identities have been disclosed in cases in which defendant Trump is involved.”

So now who is using "delaying tactics" and refusing to obey a Judge's Order? I thought "No one is above the law". Also, why is Smith so insistent these names not be known. The risk of threats is an obvious smoke-screen.

I still think the documents case is the next one to fall apart and it was the one upon which the left placed most of their hopes of seeing Trump in prison.

It’s not Trump revealing. It’s the court revealing. The court ordered it.

How about you file to halt proceedings and seek an interlocutory appeal, Jack S—t.

Holding a trial in public is unfair to the Government [the government has powers, not rights. Rights belong to the people to restrict government powers]

Smith doesn’t want anyone prying around to see how much he bribed, blackmailed his witnesses.

PS I had to stop eating popcorn. I find myself given to constant fits of snorting, and that is just not consistent with having partially masticated solids in your esophagus

Jack shit smith doesn’t want the “evidence” to be exposed as it will hit public opinion as it’s seen as a fraud of a case. Thus tampering the jury pool.

isn’t there something in the constitution that guarantees one the right to see who accuses him?

If the FBI can act on information provided by those witnesses then so can Trump. By publishing it. I mean, what is Smith afraid of?

I believe that was true in the past, but now it is (D)ifferent due to the “Trump exception” to all laws and legal precedent.

I think the most dangerous case to Trump are the ones in DC. Even though the charges are weak, it's got a DNC judge, and will have a DC jury. Ground Zero for Trump Derangement Syndrome.

..........

If they proceed in an election year (It’s almost Super Tuesday and the higher courts are not going to be friendly to election interference, and the trials might still take a couple of years), they would go through an immediate appeal.

Chances of Trump wearing an orange jump suit are getting closer to zero by the day.
