Davyd Arakhamiia, leader of the Servant of the People faction who led the Ukrainian delegation at "peace" talks with the Russians in Belarus and Türkiye in 2022, said that the Russian delegation promised Kyiv peace in exchange for refusing to join NATO, but the Ukrainians did not believe them.
Source: Davyd Arakhamiia in an interview with Nataliia Moseichuk
Details: Journalist Moseichuk noted that at a meeting with an African delegation, Vladimir Putin showed a supposedly ready-made draft peace agreement with Ukraine agreed during the negotiations in Belarus, which was allegedly initiated in Istanbul (Türkiye). According to Putin, there were 18 articles in the so-called agreement On the Permanent Neutrality of Ukraine and Security Guarantees, where "everything is spelled out, from military equipment to personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," and allegedly the document was signed by the head of the Ukrainian delegation.
Arakhamiia stressed: "For some reason, Putin did not publish this document. Why do you think? If he had such a document, he would have made it public."
Quote: "They really hoped almost to the last moment that they would force us to sign such an agreement so that we would take neutrality. It was the most important thing for them. They were prepared to end the war if we agreed to, – as Finland once did, – neutrality, and committed that we would not join NATO.

Hope you got your asbestos pants on. There is a very vocal contingent who will reject this position.
I assume the Russian plan was to use a neutral Ukraine as a springboard for their Soviet reconquest of Central Europe. What a load of crap the people of the west have been sold by the globohomos in their crusade against the Russian People.
Have them take it up with the Uke official quoted. His quotes, not mine.
Exactly. Putin didn’t want NATO 300 miles from Moscow. Can anyone here blame him?
Prima facie proof Ukrainians are dumb.
Especially when ALL nato officials made a point to stress the “defeat of Russia”, “the killing of Putin”, “the forced regime in Moscow” while standing on or near the Russian border.
The NATO Quislings running this crap show in Kiev are the dumbest, very rich, but very stupid.
How would Americans feel if China started supplying Greg Abbot with weapons and training, and promoting Texas independence and alliance in a Mexico-China military union?
It really is no different for Ukraine/Russia
I say the Cold War was a scam by the military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about. Russia was our ally in WWII. What changed? Follow the money.
Vlad was very clear since day one ( and since 2014), Ukie neutrality, NATO out of Ukraine, Neo Nazis purged from the Ukie government, he had what the collective West had not done- stated his goals clearly and concisely.
So here we are , the West depleted, Ukraine lying in ruins, population and infrastructure decimated……this should be a good lesson to Biden’s war cheerleaders…..Vlad still holds all the cards, his determination and resolve unshaken, as we are witnessing with the fall of Avidiivka…..on to the Dniepner and Odessa.
I think that contingent is mostly two types. Descendants of Banderist Ukes who moved here and to Canada. And frustrated Cold War era vets living in the past trying to remember that big moment in their lives.
Kind of like the geezer you knew in the 80s who still hated Germans and Japanese and wouldn’t let a BMW or Toyota park in their driveway.
Can’t blame some of them, but you don’t let people loving in the cold war 30-40 years ago set policy.
They are too blinded to see that the western politicians who loved the USSR now hate the Russians bitterly. And they never ask why.
Negotiations for peace can be made if there is competency from US leadership.
C’mon, let’s be honest, we all know Ukraine being neutral would only buy a few years of “peace” before Putin attacks & invades it again, under some flimsy excuse
Russia wants war, and Russia has a proven history of lying all the time ... Russia cannot be trusted - period.
Ukraine was sensible not to agree to any “deal” with those liars
LOL, Ukraine WAS neutral in 2014 when Putin seized AND annexed Crimea AND started a separatist war in Ukraine's south-east.
LOL, right, because THIS time Putin will honor the treaty, vs the treaty he signed with Ukraine in 2003- the “Treaty Between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the Russian–Ukrainian State Border”. It set Ukraine’s borders as they were in 1991 & was lodged with the UN.

You’re late to the game. This was discussed on another thread about two weeks ago.
Here is my comment at that time (addressed to FReeper fireman15):
I read the same articles you did (for instance:
https://news.yahoo.com/head-ukraines-leading-party-claims-205150773.html).
You will see that there was no signed agreement (only Putin claimed there was, and if there had been such a signed document Putin would have published it). David Arakhamia — Ukraine’s lead negotiator — denies there was any agreement, signed or otherwise. Thus, there was no agreement to be scuttled.
But, again; there has not been a list of the demands of the parties nor of the parts that were acceptable to both sides (other than Ukraine’s declaration of neutrality; and at that such a concession was a prerequisite for Russia withdrawing any forces from Ukraine— and that would only apply to the Russian positions on the day before the invasion, and would necessarily exclude withdrawing from Crimea).
“According to Arahamiya, there were several reasons for Ukraine’s refusal, and one of them was direct Western influence on the peace talks.”
Influence? The only thing that the West said was that Russia can’t be trusted; and Ukraine agreed with that assessment, especially since Russia had reneged on its previous acceptance and recognition of Ukraine’s sovereignty and internationally recognized boundaries; as well as Russia’s duplicity on the Minsk Agreements.
In any event, Arakhamia said that Western partners knew about the negotiations and saw drafts of documents, but did not attempt to make a decision for Ukraine, but rather gave advice.
So, you see, there was no agreement to be scuttled. There were negotiations, and some progress; but no agreement.
