Putin urges US to push Ukraine to talks, hints at possible swap of imprisoned WSJ reporter

Russian President Vladimir Putin used an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson to urge Washington to recognize Moscow’s interests and persuade Ukraine to sit down for talks.

...

Most of the interview, released Thursday, focused on Ukraine, where the war is nearing the two-year mark. Putin repeated his claim that his invasion of Ukraine, which Kyiv and its allies described as an unprovoked act of aggression, was necessary to protect Russian speakers in Ukraine and prevent the country from posing a threat to Russia by joining NATO.

Putin pointed at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s refusal to conduct talks with the Kremlin. He argued that it’s up to Washington to stop supplying Ukraine with weapons and convince Kyiv, which he called a U.S. “satellite,” to sit down for negotiations.

The AP is amazed that someone might think Kiev is a satellite. LOL

Putin spent two hours methodically going over the history of the region.

People are calling this a lame attempt on Putin's part to justify the Russian invasion.

And it is to some degree.

But primarily, it is actually more about Putin laying the foundation for the impending total defeat of the Ukraine by Russia and the formal annexation of the Ukraine by Russia after the impending collapse of the Ukraine.

It is also a public warning by Putin to the West that this is the most probable outcome of the Ukraine conflict if the US and NATO persist in it's current policy of prolonging it's proxy war in Ukraine.

Time is running out on the window of opportunity for a negotiated settlement to the conflict that leaves Ukraine as an independent nation because Russia has it's it's own narrowing window of opportunity to press for a near term total defeat of Ukraine.

If it does not do so soon, it faces the prospect of a costly and destructive extended quagmire in Ukraine. Regardless, the Ukraine has already lost the war and it's just a matter of how long and how much death and destruction must occur in the process. It's time for the Biden Admin and NATO admit that they have lost their proxy war and it's time to negotiate end to the conflict.

They are loathe to do this because it is a political disaster in the making for them - especially for the Democrat Party and some Republicans who have pushed the Ukraine war in the US since it is an election year.

It is political poison to admit that they squandered a huge portion of our WWIII munitions reserves at time when we have neither the money or industrial base to replenish them, have squandered hundreds of billions of dollars on the Ukraine adventure all in cynical lost proxy war that has killed or maimed close to a million Ukrainian and Russian and has devastated the Ukrainian economy and destroyed much of the Ukraine infrastructure.

Even worse for Biden and our feckless political class, once the cease fire has occurred and the distraction of war has ended , the American people and the rest of the world will be able to take stock of the situation and begin to realize the true magnitude of the damage and destruction that they have brought upon both the Ukraine and America.

Biden has used the Ukraine conflict to destroy America's political and economic leadership in the world and forced the world to back away from the dollar as the world's reserve currency which will result in very harsh economic consequences for the American people.

Putin... hints at possible swap of imprisoned WSJ reporter

LOL, Putin hints to an exchange for imprisoned WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich and a Russian assassin, Vadim Krasikov, who was convicted by a German court for killing former Chechen dissident Zelimkhan Khangoshvili with several close-range shots in Berlin in August 2019.

Who Is Vadim Krasikov? The Convicted Russian Killer Putin Wants To Swap With Jailed U.S. Reporter Evan Gershkovich

In 2019, Georgia-born Chechen dissident Zelimkhan Khangoshvili was shot dead in a park in Berlin by a Russian man riding a bicycle. The assassin was later identified as Vadim Krasikov, who had entered Germany using false documents. The assassination triggered a major diplomatic row between Russia and Germany and led to the ouster of two Russian diplomats from Berlin. A German court later convicted Krasikov of the killing, which it referred to as a “state-ordered murder,” and sentenced him to life in prison.

“and convince Kyiv, which he called a U.S. “satellite,” to sit down for negotiations.”

Right, because this treaty Putin will honor, vs the many he broke by invading Ukraine? Putin even broke a treaty he personally signed with Ukraine, the 2003 “Treaty Between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the Russian–Ukrainian State Border”. It set Ukraine’s borders as they were in 1991 & was lodged with the UN.

Russian violated treaties

UN Charter 1945

Nuclear NPT 1970

Helsinki Accords 1975

Belovezha Accords 91–92

Budapest Memo 94

Black Sea Fleet Treaty 97

Friendship Treaty 98

Treaty on Azov Sea & Kerch Strait 03

Border treaty 03

Karkiv pact 10

At the beginning of the interview, Carlson asserted that Putin "had come to the conclusion that the United States, through NATO, might initiate a 'surprise attack'" on Russia.

"To American ears, that sounds paranoid," Carlson continued. "Tell us why you believe the United States might strike Russia out of the blue. How did you conclude that?"

"It's not that America, the United States was going to launch a surprise strike on Russia," Putin responded. "I didn't say that. Are we having a talk show or a serious conversation?"

Carlson reacted by laughing and offering to read the Russian president his own quote. Putin ignored him and instead began an extended explanation of the "historical background" of Russia and Ukraine, before arguing that Moscow was justified in claiming parts of Ukrainian territory.

Then why is Putin so desperate for Ukraine to surrender?

If Russia is “so dominant”, why don’t they just push on to victory, and get it over with?

Because, obviously, they can’t ... Russia is losing ...

LOL

He isn't...Russia will fight and win a complete victory over the fascists in Ukraine, even if the dopey western neo-liberals seem to think otherwise.

If Russia is “so dominant”, why don’t they just push on to victory, and get it over with?

Awww...is Russia winning too slowly for you, princess?

Part of the "denazification" process involves eliminating the Banderite scum from the face of the earth completely, and Russia does this task exceedingly well.

You had your chance for a settlement in March 2022, and you chose poorly.

Much of the UA military is made of the Russian speakers, the same you were going to "liberate".

Just wait till the ground freezes !!!1

Considering the long history of the Ukraine being a part of Russia (as outlined last night) that is no surprise.

Even the most ardent "Ukrainian" will start bleating in Russian once in combat.

He isn't

Read his words again ... yes, he is desperate

Trying to force a Ukrainian surrender DOES make Putin look weak and desperate ... he could have said nothing and just kept warmongering, but instead, revealed his hand

"Actions speak louder than words"

How sad to see Tucker sit their deaf and mute as Putin blamed Poland for causing WW2. Putin’s Nazi sympathies are obvious and well explain the genocidal Nazi traits of his regime.

Haven’t watched the interview yet. Listening to Putin is just interesting but you have to remember he is a product of the Soviet Union and the KGB.

Read his words again ... yes, he is desperate

“We are ready for this dialogue,” Putin said, claiming Washington had directed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop negotiations. “They stopped negotiations. Is it a mistake? Yes. Correct it. We are ready. What else is needed?”

I can only imagine how dumb you'd have to be to suggest that these are the words of a desperate man.

If anything it suggests Putin has zero effs to give toward ending the war.
