The self-described “super mayor” of a small Illinois town has hit back at those who criticize her almost $300,000 salary and brazen use of public funds on flights, steakhouses and billboards — while her village faces a deficit.
Democrat Tiffany Henyard, elected as mayor of Dolton in 2021, claimed at a public meeting on Monday her critics are simply upset because she is a black woman in power.
“You all should be ashamed of yourselves because you all are black. You all are black,” the glamorous mayor said during the livestreamed meeting. “And you all [are] sitting up here beating and attacking a black woman that’s in power.”
Henyard, who also serves as the Thornton Township supervisor, went on to hit out at her own village trustees, who filed a lawsuit against her, alleging she forged checks and withheld financial records.
“You all forget I’m the leader. They want to hear from the mayor,” she said of the 20,000 residents. “You ain’t learned that yet.”
“The mayor — not the trustees that don’t do nothing. They only run their mouth,” she continued, clearly vexed.

Her predecessor was only the township supervisor, but wielded considerable power and influence. He was also chairman of the board at the local community college for many years. I taught some adult education classes for them some years ago but, since I taught at workplaces, I was rarely on campus. One day I had to stop by the department office and there was only one person there. Everyone else was at a Democrat fundraiser or campaign event held by the township supervisor. Being off-campus most of the time meant no one remembered to “invite” me to that.
She is a real piece of work and very devious. One of the sharper and apparently honest, council members is planning to run against her. She is trying to pass a new pay plan for the Mayor which would cut the salary from $100,000+ per year to $25,000 but only if a new mayor is elected. If she gets re-elected, her plan would maintain the higher salary for the term of office.

It’s a black thing. They are into royalty and she symbolizes it. They’ll support her the same way they support the Obamas. Long for the life rather than work and achieve it.
