Hawaii court says 'spirit of Aloha' supersedes Constitution, Second Amendment

Hawaii's highest court ruled Wednesday that Second Amendment rights as interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court do not extend to Hawaii citizens, citing the "spirit of Aloha."

In the ruling, which was penned by Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Todd Eddins, the court determined that states "retain the authority to require" individuals to hold proper permits before carrying firearms in public. The decision also concluded that the Hawaii Constitution broadly "does not afford a right to carry firearms in public places for self defense," further pointing to the "spirit of Aloha" and even quoting HBO's TV drama "The Wire."

"Article I, section 17 of the Hawaii Constitution mirrors the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution," the Hawaii Supreme Court decision states. "We read those words differently than the current United States Supreme Court. We hold that in Hawaii there is no state constitutional right to carry a firearm in public."

I have wondered that too, LOL!

Or if California became part of Mexico again. What difference besides a checkpoint between Nevada and California would it make at this point.

Give them back their independence. They are not Americans.

Great idea, let's give Peral Harbor to the Chi-Coms. A deep water port and just a 4 hour flight to our west coast.

The vast majority of natives don't want independence from the US. They just have a supreme court full of progressive idiots who are about to be humiliated in DC.

If the left keeps attacking the second amendment the Supreme Court is going to have to pass an injunctions against individual states where they cannot pass any legislation affecting the 2nd Amendment without Supreme Court review and consent. The Supreme Court this with voting rights and they need to do it with the 2nd Amendment.

Too bad there is no federal way to remove state court judges.

There actually is. It's a little complicated but exists. Unfortunately it requires a DoJ who actually enforces the law vs being a corrupt sock puppet for the left/Deep State.

Didn’t they want to create their own country? Let them and Puerto Rico go and see how long they last.

I agree and the rest of America’s constitution does not apply to Hawaii either so let’s just aloha

Never should have been a State, and we never should have overthrown the Monarchy, for the sake of Mr. Dole’s pineapples.

That and the premier Pacific naval base which the Chinese PLAN would love to have, since it give them dominance of the entire Pacific and would make their take over of the US sooo much easier.

What is a Spirit of Aloha

I’ve heard of “Driving with Aloha” which, after some observation there, turns out to really mean driving drunk, but not that one.

I read the article and I still don’t know what “the spirit of Aloha” means. No offense to Hawaiians, but it sounds like B.S. to me.

And they just now noticed, how about that. They aren’t very close with this Spirit, are they.
