The Democratic nominee for the special election to replace ousted GOP Rep. George Santos of New York is expressing concern about his chances of winning the swing seat in a district where immigration is top of mind to voters, CNN reported Monday.
Former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi is running against GOP nominee Mazi Melesa Pilip to fill the vacant Long Island seat on Feb. 13 after Santos was expelled in early December over allegations of fraud. Suozzi told CNN that Democrats are “in trouble” in the 3rd congressional district where President Joe Biden won by eight points in 2020.

We'll see.
Let me guess, the Dem is running on “you won’t be able to kill babies”!!!
Did you noter former NY Senator Al D’Amato in photo with Pilip? 86. Still going strong.
Suozzi is a complete phoney. While the County Executive in Nassau county he openly bragged how he “threw ICE out of Nassau county”. Now he is running ads saying he has “broke” with the Biden cabal on open borders, supports ICE and has actors portraying ICE agents shaking hands with him.
I would expect the district is heavily Jewish.
Biden attacking Netanyahu is really hurting the Democrats. 😁
The horrible testimony of the Hamas supporting university presidents of Harvard, Penn, and MIT hurt the leftist DP even more.
VOTE DEMOCRATS OUT.
“Top of mind”
AOCs is in November......let’s start praying NOW!
I'm skeptical because most Jews are Leftists to the core. Nevertheless, I hope you are right.
.
NY 3rd Congressional District is over 20% Jewish, and they vote at least 70% Democrat.
“NY 3rd Congressional District is over 20% Jewish”
If that figure is from the Berman Jewish Databank then it’s a decade out of date. They claim 22% for NY-3 as of 2014 and THIS version of NY-3 is not the same as that one.
According to the radical leftist self-loathers at JewishDems.org, the current figure for NY-3 is 11%. Still pretty high (4th highest in the country, they assert) and their votes will no doubt go overwhelmingly to the Democrat as you noted.
Hopefully Suozzi’s panic is warranted, and may be based on a quickie analysis of early voting (a little TOO quick, probably) but he’s still clearly the favorite to win next week.
That’s based on the same obsolete 2014 data, but the authors probably had little choice since they published that article in 2020 — BEFORE the new districts were even established. As their map illustrates, those are the old district boundaries.
In any event, the more-accurate figure of 11% is a still a significant proportion and most of that 11% will go to Suozzi. More significantly, the district is over 20% Asian — mostly liberal Chinese and ultra-liberal Indians — and they will probably give the Rat somewhere in the vicinity of 65-70% of their votes.
That’s a major hurdle for Pirip to overcome, but she should make it at least moderately close despite the demographic and financial advantages Suozzi has. Maybe she’ll even come close enough to pull off the upset but that’s hardly the most likely outcome (as is obviously true of all “upsets”).
Good find!
I believe there are a lot of Asians in NY CD 03.
Nah, he’s just trying to rally his voters. He might have it in the bag already, but he wants to make sure.
There sure are. They rank 2nd in the state of NY behind only the heavily-Chinese 6th District in Queens and they rank 15th nationwide among all Congressional districts -- 4th overall if you take out California and Hawaii:
What’s the status of allowing no-excuse-cheat-by-mail-in ballots for this election?
Yeah. I was thinking of Little Neck Chinatown.
