Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Sunday walked back her previous comment that Texas could secede from the US if it decided to do so.
“No. According to the Constitution, they can’t,” Haley told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” when asked whether she thought the Lone Star State had a right to secede.
“What I do think they have the right to do is have the power to protect themselves and do all that. Texas has talked about seceding for a long time. The Constitution doesn’t allow for that,” she said. “But what I will say is … Where’s that coming from? That’s coming from the fact that people don’t think that government is listening to them.”
Her comments mark a turnaround from remarks she made last week, when Haley told radio host Charlemagne tha God that “if Texas decides they want to do that, they can do that.”

Biden probably called her up and said “Hey, don’t be giving them Extremist MAG Texans any ideas”.
Dumb.
Many of them would have left the Union in the first 50 years.
Seems to be it’s more of an economic problem. There are lots of folks in Texas drawing Social Security if Texas succeeds then those monthly payments will stop. Texas is full of military installations if the state of Texas succeeds then US support for them will stop. I would hope the US would still support its Veterans with their checks but no doubt they would need to go to the US for their healthcare.
Geez if they succeed Social Security would be solvent for 100 years, the Defense budget would be reduced significantly, and they can let us Vets just die...
Texas is my favorite State besides Montana as I have spent years there but calls for Texas to succeed are just dumb...
What a bunch of horse manure!
Session is not mentioned in the Constitution. James Madison maintained to his dying day any state could peacefully secede. He also maintained any attempt by the federal government to use military force to prevent session would be an invasion and not within the power of a federal government.
“Her comments mark a turnaround from remarks she made last week”
Standard “Republican” boilerplate, say something objectionable to the donor class, doesn’t matter what the subject might be, doesn’t matter what the facts are, yer gonna get a phone call. “Don’t ever mention this again.”
She got a phone call. LOL. She has sufficiently prostrated herself publicly, apologized, denouncing herself in the latest struggle session, and agrees to be a liberal piñata, always striving to be the “good” Republican.
Ten bucks sez she’s a democrat in drag anyway. Who do they think they are fooling?
Nikki made the hilarious claim on the stump that “women act and men talk”.
Lol.
She keeps blabbing and blabbing and blabbing—forgot the old saying:
“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt”.
Perpetuity was an aspirational word used in the Articles of Confederation. After that first union failed in eight years or so - states unilaterally seceded - a new union was created by the Constitution.
The word perpetuity is not used in the Constitution.
She keeps walking back lots statements
The media is currently on her side
If she is the nominee she won’t be able to sustain the bombardment by the media once they turn on her
The media will turn on any republican
Trump is thick skin and can handle the media’s attacks
If the Communists win in 2024 (likely, unfortunately), I hope that Florida secedes.
Any state can leave, guess our Indian anchor baby didn’t read the constitution, take a civics class, or study US history.
So did the original 13 states.
The states created the union. The states are the parents; the union is the child.
The reason our nation is failing is because this concept has been stood on its head.
Let your state legislature try to regulate the size of mudflaps on trucks traveling state-owned highways and you will learn the power of majority of bayonets.
Nothing in the Constitution says Texas cannot...nothing. So Nimrata is a moron. Some claim the Civil War settled the issue, but it did not. It merely settled which side had more military power.
Also, if Texas and other states did not legally leave the union, then why did they all have to go through a re-admission process in 1867?
If your divorce carried no legal weight, you don’t need to remarry.
Membership in the USA is not a suicide pact.
““But if destruction of the Union by one or by a part only of the States be lawfully possible, the Union is less perfect than before the Constitution, having lost the vital element of perpetuity.”
I’m glad Lincoln saved the Union, but he offered nothing of legalities in that speech, merely sophistry and emotions.
“There are lots of folks in Texas drawing Social Security if Texas succeeds then those monthly payments will stop.”
If a social security recipient moves to Mexico, do they lose benefits they have paid for?
If at first you don’t secede, try try again...
She’s a dolt, yes, but there are those who say she’s fun to party with.
According to KrisAnne Hall, Constitutional Lawyer, States sure do have the right to reclaim their delegated powers.
Take a look at her Constitutional presentation on YouTube called NonCompliant.

then let The North do it once again.
