On Friday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm stated that part of the reason for the slowdown in electric vehicle demand is due to the fact that they’re more expensive than gas cars and there’s “a confusing tax incentive market.”
Co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin asked, “[T]here’s been a big push, obviously, from government, and, frankly, I think we thought from the marketplace, for EVs and what that would ultimately do to the interests of oil and what not. However, there is clearly a slowdown taking place, and we’re seeing it, by the way, Tesla stock is down, even as a result of — that’s probably been the most successful — I think we can all agree — EV maker in the world, and yet, it’s getting harder even for them. And so, the question is, what is that about? Is that an infrastructure problem? Is that a market problem? Are the products that the other automakers are making not good enough? And if that’s the case, what do you have to do?”

Yellin. Buttplug, Granhoilm ... - how dumb can an administration be?
Didn’t fail, not a bad idea. Just didn’t do it right this time. They never learn or quit. Always the same.
Oh, so it’s NOT that people don’t want them. Thanks jennee!
Yes, “FREE MONEY” always confuses people. Look how much it has confused the invasion army from down south.
The only problem with EV sales is Biden hasn’t signed an Executive Order Mandating ALL Federal Employee’s exclusively use EV vehicles for ALL Transportation, including to and from their respective workplaces. And BAN ICE powered vehicles from ALL FEDERAL PROPERTY.
Yes, she is that stupid to realize that the market responds to demand, and there isn't much of a demand north of the Mason-Dixon line in winter
when by the time you get the car heated comfortably, and use the windshield wipers, and get to where you're going, you've lost a significant amount of your battery charge.
The main question is whether or not you will have enough charge to get back home, or have to spend additional time to find a charging station. Being stranded is more than inconvenient !
Furthermore, the additional wear and tear on tires due to the increased weight, wears down the tires much faster that a conventional vehicle.
Add to that the additional initial expense of the vehicles seem to only appeal to the progressive political wing - due to climate change, don't ya know (?).
Car dealerships can't move the electric vehicles off their car lots, and are paying heavily for that car lot rental space.
Not a bad idea. Except federal employees work from home now. Washington, D.C. is a ghost town now.
“…what do you have to do?”
How about the government gets back in its constitutional lane and stops this ridiculous effort to ram EVs down our throats come hell or high water?
Keep up the narrative, no matter what the actual facts are, keep the narrative.... this is Goebbels 101.
Lighten up Jenny. You don’t have a clue what is causing the “slumping” EV demand. It’s that they are junk. Expensive junk too.
It’s important to remember that “Tesla ...that’s probably been the most successful ... EV maker in the world”, was specifically not invited to a White House meeting on EVs, because it is not a union shop.
And slumping sales have nothing to do with fact even the Sec’y of Energy cannot plan a cross-country trip in an EV without having her entourage driving IC cars reserving charging places for her.
I wouldn’t have an EV if it were free. Too much trouble with short range, charging times and battery worries. Dangerous to park in the garage.
Sniffer’s handlers (jOkeass) haven’t figured out how to make white people pay for it.
Not a bad idea!?
You 2 are part of the problem. Yeah the govt. should tell people what car they can drive to and from work, that’s a great idea /s
What, exactly, were Granholm’s qualifications to be Sec.of Energy?
The Feds should practice what they preach.
Because only bureaucrats are special kind of stupid, thinking that regular idiots will buy expensive crap that doesn’t work for long. Or pay more taxes instead of just moving somewhere else.
Law of Unintended Consequences applies here.
Mirror fogging rat.
The high price for EVs is likely the cause in the drop in demand … the laws of basic economics are totally lost in this crowd. However, perhaps consumers seeing smug EV owners stranded in the cold weather that turned charging stations into parking lots also had something to due with lack of demand.
