The first contest is a state-run primary on Feb. 6. Haley is on that ballot. The second vote is a caucus on Feb. 8, organized by the Trump-friendly Nevada Republican Party, with just Trump on that ballot.
Even if Haley wins the primary on Feb. 6, it will be an empty victory, as only candidates competing in the party-run caucus on Feb. 8 can compete for the state's 26 delegates.
That means Trump is almost certainly assured to win all of Nevada's 26 delegates on Feb. 8.
There is a backstory as to why many of the Western state's voters find themselves receiving two ballots in the mail, with Trump on only one of them, and Haley on the other.
The competing ballots are the result of a conflict between the state Republican Party - run by Trump allies - and a 2021 state law that mandates a primary must be held.
Nevada has long held caucuses to chose presidential candidates, but after reporting issues and other problems with the 2020 caucuses, the state legislature passed a law switching its voting system to a more straightforward, traditional primary vote.
The law was also aimed at making Nevada a more attractive option as it sought to move higher up the nominating calendar pecking order. Initially, the move appeared to be a success: for 2024, by setting a primary date of Feb. 6, the state captured the coveted spot of being third in the nation to vote.
But presidential nominating contests are run by state political parties, not the state, and the Trump-friendly Nevada Republican Party decided to stick with a caucus on Feb. 8. Party leaders viewed a caucus as helping Trump, because of his superior ground game in the state.

Nikki McRomBush will win the primary, but it will mean nothing, and she'll get NO delegates out of it.
And the point of all this, folks, is to get delegates.
So Nikki might just as well win a Republican spelling bee, which yields no delegates.
Voted ‘None of the Above’ in the primary
I too voted for “none of the above.” Every Republican in Nevada should vote for “none of the above.”
The primary is bogus, it is only the caucus that matters.
“I too voted for “none of the above.” Every Republican in Nevada should vote for “none of the above.””
Oh, I forgot you guys could do that in Nevada.
The dueling primary and caucus in Nevada, show the idiocy of the state party. Everyone gets a ballot for the primary and instructions, a few people get the same info for the caucus. Haley is in the primary and will very likely win it because she is the only nationally known candidate in the primary. But she’ll only get bragging rights because the Republican party says they will ignore that vote instead hold an exclusive caucus with probably one or 2% of the states Republicans. It’s going to be a major embarrassment for the state Republicans, and explains why we don’t seem to be able to elect anyone decent in the state.
Caucus instructions here. Easy to remember. There’s likely one for the other states holding a caucus.
Note that the primary was imposed by the state legislature and Democrat governor, and not the Republican Party which prefers the traditional caucus.
We shall in vote in person and not surrender our mail ballots.. Then caucus on the 8th. Sadly a lot of folks have ZERO clue about the process. And, I do mean ZERO! We talked to some folks last night and they had no clue about where to go to caucus and that was all that counted for Rep candidates. Sad.
Also, it appears we may headed to “ranked” voting before long.
I got a ballot for “THE PRIMARY”.
I did not get a BALLOT for the CAUCUS-—
You MUST attend the caucus, shoe ID,sign in, and then you get a ballot you cast THERE ON THAT NIGHT. You do NOT have to stay for any length of time—you can sign in, get your ballot, fill it out, turn it in & leave. OR YOU CAN STAY & “CAUCUS” (DISCUSS) with others.
NO MAIL IN BALLOTS IN CAUCUS EVENTS.
When the caucus was held in 2016 for Republican candidates-—the doors opened early-—we arrived early-—the lines were 2 wide-—They ran out of ballots 3 times & had to print more off the school copiers-—when we left-—(still daylight)-—the line was 4 wide & all the way out to the practice fields, where cars were also parked.
I do NOT believe that ONLY 2% of Nevada Republicans will go to the caucuses.
PRIOR GOVERNOR-—
Current one is REpublican
Will she though
If they allow write ins Trumps could still win the meaningless primary
According to state there were 452,028 registered Republicans at the time of the caucus and 74,878 participated. That’s 16.6%. I’ll bet that there will only be about 2% and no more than 5% participate this year.
