It’s not just prog or metal that has been ignored. Three Dog Night (say what you will) probably sold more records than 20 of their “influential or instrumental” acts combined that they’ve put in over the years.

The fact it took almost 25 years for the Moody Blues to be inducted into the R&R HOF is testament to your post. Donna Summer was inducted into the R&R HOF almost a half dozen years before the Moody Blues- think about that....
Grand Funk have been reviled by the critics since day 1. Wrongly I think, they’re a good fun band. But the music press has always hated them, they’ll never get in.
Three Dog Night as fun as they are most of their hits are covers, and they kind of disappeared from the consciousness in the 80s. Of course they probably should have gone in back then. Wenner probably didn’t like them.
There’s an insane list of bands still not in. And bands that took way too long. Moodys should have been in the first class, every sane person knows it.

Tom Scholz was caught ripping off Eddie Van Halen’s licks on stage, when VH was starting out.

Maybe the Wrecking Crew should have just continued to make ALL the music.
Everyone talks about what a great front man Mercury was- and most making that claim never saw Queen. He was great up until 1977, after that he was the usual arrogant, condescending homo on stage.
