The Walgreens exec John Driscoll asked global lawmakers to tax millionaires like himself more. As it stands, the American dream is in danger of extinction, Driscoll said. Driscoll joined over 250 billionaires and millionaires in supporting the Proud to Pay More campaign. A business tycoon is taking an unexpected stance on taxes.
Walgreens Boots Alliance's executive vice president, John Driscoll, wrote a letter asking lawmakers in the US and abroad to tax the wealthy more. Driscoll echoed the pleas of entrepreneurs, an heir, and activists in his demand to save the "rapidly diminishing" American dream.
As the grandchild of Irish immigrants, Driscoll labeled himself a beneficiary of the American dream — the concept that anyone in the US can achieve success and prosperity by working hard. The exec signed an open letter from the Proud to Pay More campaign addressing the leaders gathered at Davos 2024, an annual meeting held in Switzerland that's attended by CEOs, government officials, business elites, and members of the media.

IIRC, it was Samuel who warned the Israelites that if they chose having a King, this would happen to them. Modern government has at least tripled that.
Well, to be sane, you need to recognize that the difference for the employees is very small per person.
The argument is similar to the oil industry where people are complaining about a $2/gallon increase in prices and blaming the 5% company profits.
Either that or his brain parts are past their good date.
Write a check buddy, put your money where your mouth is and prepare to see all your fortune pissed away.
Budgets are like reserve pits. The bigger you make them the more they fill with chit.
Walgreens boss says in plea to raise taxes for the wealthy thereby cutting jobs and impoverishing everyone as prices rise
How did this ‘genius’ rise to CEO?
Does he, perhaps, have a Haaaaavaaard MBA?
The few I've dealt with were worse than useless, and totally ineducable, since they were totally convinced they knew everything about anything!
Innovation, growth, opportunity, or ever higher taxes on the eeeevil rich, take your pick
“The American dream is ‘rapidly diminishing’”
It needs to diminish by being mixed in with an American work ethic and an American morality ethic.
I'll take things that will never, ever happen for $1,000,000,000, Alex! (People like John Driscoll paying more taxes.)
"The middle class, and the Trumpenproletariat, knows that. They know perfectly well that communist ideas will be sold under a banner of "soak the rich", but weaponized against them, instead."
This was not considered unrealistic 30 years ago.
But the middle class knows that they can't afford that lifestyle today.
And they can see that people like John Driscoll who advocate "soak the rich" themes have beachfront homes, yachts and private jets. (Whoever that "rich guy" is, it is not them.)
“Driscoll joined over 250 billionaires and millionaires in supporting the Proud to Pay More campaign”
uh, they can voluntarily pay all the extra taxes they want to ...
Crony capitalist whine for more crony capitalism. No, no indeed, HELL no
Notice these clowns never simply write big checks to the US Treasury, instead they whine for “more taxes”?
Why? Because they know the way the US Tax code works they will have endless loopholes to avoid every having to pay anything.
They don’t want more taxes on them, they want more taxes on you.
I don’t buy gazillionaires begging for higher taxes on gazillionaires unless they are at least voluntarily paying more in taxes than required as it is.
If they think it is the right thing to do, why aren’t they already doing it?
For these blowhard millionaires and billionaires, just voluntarily add two or three zeros to the taxes you owe rather than increase taxes that they would undoubtedly hire accountants to get around. This is nothing but BS virtue signaling.
This guy still doesn’t grasp the fact that in this nation
the taxes on the wealthy don’t stop at the wealthy.
Under Clinton, tax increases on the wealthy tapered down
but still hit people making $20-$30 thousand per year.
That’s not wealthy people.
We need to get our nation’s spending under control, and
those who get welfare although they could work, really need
to be tapered off to nothing.
We have to work to eat. You have to work to eat.
Lets start paying this debt down NOW!
No, when taxes are cut, the rich pay more.
There should be no welfare.. period.
Today’s churches should be grateful they get anything. Expecting 10% is as bad as the government.
It could be taxed out of existence...
