If Russia Beats Ukraine, America Will Have to Massively Rearm NATO's Eastern Flank
https://nationalinterest.org ^ | January 10, 2024 | by Sarah White

If Ukraine’s efforts are exhausted and Russia prevails, the U.S. will have to heavily arm the six countries that make up NATO’s eastern flank—Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Romania—unless it wants to send troops and fight its allies’ war for them.

mid the chaos of last year’s House of Representatives Speaker fight, Congressional aid to Ukraine became a casualty. When Kevin McCarthy, a supporter of the Ukraine war effort, was ousted, that support was not shared by his successors and several of his colleagues. Since then, aid to Ukraine has become more divisive and stuck in limbo.

How about NOT since that is why Russia defended itself in the first place

Why would the United States have to rearm these countries. They are all part of the EU and it is the EU’s responsibility to arm itself.

The Baltics, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are pretty indefensible. On the other hand their conquest by Russia would be no big deal strategically. They have been part of Russia or the Russian Empire during much of the last couple centuries and haven’t figured much in conflicts.

Why would the US be responsible?

Can’t the EU and NATO countries take care of themselves?

Oh wait, there was a peace deal on the table that the US sabotaged. So maybe we should pay.

To think of all the people dead, maimed, driven from their homes because of these scumbags. And I don’t mean the Russians.

The EU has a larger population and GDP than North America.

EU nations are supposedly the ones who gain from being “saved” from Putin.

When does the EU start to put up something for themselves ?

The US has carried NATO long enough. At some point in the Ukraine war, it was reported that the US had supplied 70% of the money/resources. We carry them and they do nothing to arm themselves sufficiently.
President Trump wanted out of NATO. Let’s go!

So to beat Russia, we have to enrich the defense industry, and if we lose, we have to enrich the defense industry?

Lol... gotcha.

America isn’t going to do any such thing.

The foolish mistake of extending NATO past the Oder is going to be reversed. The empire is falling,

That quote needs to have a date.

It’s at least 5 years old.

Trump promises periodical deployment of US troops to Baltic states
4/4/18
“According to the Baltic News Service, Lithuanian diplomats have said that the mention of development of air defense in the declaration is the first U.S. commitment of this type, which is important to secure progress during the NATO summit scheduled for July.
In the declaration, the U.S. also restates its “ironclad commitment to Article 5 of the Washington Treaty,” which consolidates the principle of collective defense.”
