CAMAS, Wash. — Republicans are desperate to recapture the southwest Washington congressional seat they lost in 2022. But first they must settle who will carry the GOP torch into battle against Democratic U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez next year.
Joe Kent, a conservative adherent of former president Donald Trump, who Gluesenkamp Perez defeated in the 3rd Congressional District, is bidding for a rematch. He’s piled up money and secured early endorsements from the state Republican Party and several county GOP parties as well.
But he’s also now facing a stern intraparty challenge from Leslie Lewallen who has amassed a tidy sum of cash and backing of a few GOP influencers since entering the race.

The Kent Campaign, in a statement, blamed efforts of pro-Republican forces for his coming up 2,500 votes shy of victory.
“In 2022, Joe Kent lost the seat by less than 1% despite a deeply divided Republican Party that spent $10 million against him in the primary and being outspent 6-to-1 in the general election,” it reads. “Joe Kent is the battle-tested Republican who will defeat Marie Perez in 2024.” New election, old problem
The 3rd District is guaranteed to attract national attention and significant spending as a marquee political battleground in 2024. Republicans are smarting from losing the seat and Democrats are motivated to keep it. The district covers Lewis, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Clark and Skamania counties and a touch of Thurston County.

Kent had raised $433,000 and Lewallen hauled in $141,500 as of June 30, according to their most recent Federal Election Commission filings. Gluesenkamp Perez collected $1.5 million through the end of June.

Joe Kent can’t win.
PSTUPID REPUBLICANS ONLY KNOW CIRCULAR FIRING SQUADS!!
GOP politics is akin to having a firing squad standing in a circle facing each other.
made my decision to support Joe Kent in 2022 and backed it with my hard earned money. nothing’s changed.
In 2016 it was Donald Trump who couldn’t win. So many knowledgeable people said so.
Yes.
The GOP establishment would rather a Democrat win than a Trump-supporting conservative.
Me too. I even gave Joe my unworn original Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos Tee Shirt in Unalaska.
Too true.
Why not?
is that many GOP voters found him “too extreme” and wound up not voting
And therein lies the rub folks. There are voters who do find some candidates extreme. As if that candidate is going to start going through their district like a Berzerker on meth. But at the same time, those very same voters will bitch and moan that something needs to be done.
They just want it done at afternoon tea, rather the back alley at midnight.
Me, I’ll take the person that will flip over the tea table and who’s licking their chops to be in the back alley at midnight.
“Washington State Standard”
Where did that come from? First I’ve heard of it.
Do you live in this District? In the last election the RNC did not support Kent. In short, they were mad that Butler, the RINO was deposed by him. Nice man, looks you straight in the eye and holds himself like a man.
Leslie Lewallen? Is he like a poster boy for a homosexual Yale boy or something? Hey Leslie? Lex Luthor, L L Light in the Loafers?
What happens in WA, is they move votes from safe districts to Red districts. They simply register voters in one place for the Congressionals, then move them back to Seattle King Cty for City and local elections. It is not illegal, and is simply done electronically.
“Joe Kent can’t win.”
BullSchiff!, pinheads like you caused the previous travesty.
‘zactly. WA is as thoroughly corrupt as any deepState/DNC/RINO/Uniparty entity, if not more so.
WA is totally proto communist trashed by marxist/leftist SEA and OLY,
Inslee is a flat out socialist totalitarian fascist.
As a born and raised Washingtonian I agree 100%. Now living in the still free state of Idaho I am sickened by the schiffhole that is now the Democrat one party state of Washington.
This is a ready made story for the Surrender Monkeys so start screeching.
My brother knows Joe Kent. I am told that the Dems of the 3rd Cong. District are fed up with Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. who many times votes with the GOP. This lack of support by the Dems in their district will give Kent the win.
