Maine officials are coming under fire after handing a $132,000 contract to a racial justice group, only for it to conclude with a 30-minute webinar on 'problematic' place names.
Taxpayers footed the bill for the lecture as part of the state's employment of non-profit Atlantic Black Box (ABB), which claims to 'engage the public in the collective rewriting of our regional history.'
In footage of the webinar this week, ABB founder Meadow Dibble urged attendees to acknowledge suffering caused by 'white settler people' as she rattled off place names Maine residents should feel offended by.

The Shoshone called then “Many Pinnacles.” The Americans called them “Pilot Knobs.” The French (being French) called them “Le Trois Tetons.” You would think the French, of all people, would know they don’t come in threes. How soon before the Wyoming kooks get their panties in wads?

I wouldn’t be giving such groups money. In fact, if it weren’t for the 14th Amendment guarantee of equality under the law, I would tax them extra just for being so stupid.

Perhaps we need a new law - no public land, site, road, town, building, statute etc. can be renamed without first submitting it to a vote of the people and the vote must be at least 50% of eligible voters, and to be sure a second vote would be required ten years after the first vote.
Too often historical names and events are changed by a very small minority often against the wishes of the majority of the people. This would slow it down a little.
Possibly for something other than “woke” reasons (but you never know in New England) the state of Connecticut did away with all of its county names sometime in 2022, I think.
They were replaced by evocative labels such as “The Lower Connecticut River Valley Planning Region”. Nobody could be offended by such a bland name as that, could they?
One has to wonder how much longer traditional, state, county and city names will be allowed to exist when white liberal woketards (acting supposedly on behalf of people like Indians who couldn’t care less what something is called) are vicariously “offended” and demand changes which cowardly politicians will surely cave to.
In 2020 the ultra-liberal state of Rhode Island voted to drop the words “and Providence Plantations” from its official state name, lest some descendants of Rhode Island slaves (what?) be offended and riot or something.
What missed business opportunity. Product placement in renaming stuff that snowflakes want changed. Should be great for dish washing liquid sales.
You can’t win with these folks. They would denounce Indian place names such as Orono as “cultural appropriation.”
How about calling it “Sourpuss” in honor of all these whiners.
