President Joe Biden’s polling numbers made history in Michigan, as less than 20% of state voters said the Democratic incumbent deserves another term as president.
A poll from the Detroit News/WDIV-TV released Wednesday found that out of 600 Michiganian respondents, just 17% believed Biden deserves another term in the White House. The number marked a record low for a major public officeholder in Michigan’s modern political history, according to Richard Czuba, founder of the poll-conducting Glengariff Group.
Biden trails former President Donald Trump by 8 percentage points in a head-to-head matchup, with 47% of respondents saying they prefer Trump and 39% preferring Biden. The results are a significant blow to Biden, who is trailing the former president in several battleground states that will likely decide the outcome of the 2024 election in roughly 10 months.
Biden won Michigan in 2020 by 3 percentage points, 51% to 48%. In January 2020, ahead of that year’s general election, Biden, who was not yet the nominee, led Trump by 7 points.
When third-party candidates were thrown into the race, Trump’s lead over Biden increased to 12 percentage points, stoking Democrats’ fears that the entry of an independent ticket would hurt Biden’s reelection chances and push Trump to victory.
The poll from Glengariff Group released Wednesday was the first one to show Trump with a lead over the likely Democratic nominee in Michigan before an election, Czuba told the Detroit News.
“If I were a Democrat in Michigan, I would be breaking the emergency fire alarms in the White House and demanding to know what the plan is for Michigan,” Czuba said. “Because these numbers are very bad for any incumbent of any party.”
When asked about whether Biden deserved another term, 77% said they wanted a different national leader. When asked the same question regarding Trump, 33% of respondents said the former president deserves another stint in the White House, and 62% said they would prefer someone else.
Michigan Democrats have had several political victories over the last six years, most recently flipping the state legislature to gain a Democratic trifecta for 2023. Michigan Republicans suffered a deep blow during the 2022 midterm elections with historic losses, particularly when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) won reelection by over 10 percentage points. The state GOP also continues to suffer from intraparty dissension and financial problems.
However, Biden is facing opposition from Michigan Democrats and particularly Muslim Americans, a voting bloc that overwhelmingly supported Biden’s 2020 campaign. Now, the demographic threatens to withhold votes in 2024 over the administration’s stance on the war between Israel and Hamas — a move that could prove disastrous for the president’s reelection chances.
Czuba said Michigan voters’ views on Biden have changed, as Trump’s support in the new poll is in line with the shares of votes he has received in the last two presidential elections.
Three years into his first term, the poll found that Biden had a 58% unfavorable rating and a 29% favorable rating. In September 2020, ahead of the November 2020 election, 43% of Michigan voters had a favorable opinion of Biden. Most of the negative reviews Biden received were related to his age, with 41% of responses connected to his general level of competence and mental competence. At 81 years old, he is the oldest president in U.S. history.
“It is about how they perceive his fitness for office,” Czuba said of the opposition to Biden.
Trump became the first Republican in 28 years to win the Michigan presidential election, defeating Hillary Clinton by 0.2 percentage points in 2016.
Trump’s lead in Wednesday’s poll comes despite the former president’s attempt to overturn the state’s 2020 election results with fake electors. The office of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed charges against several of the alternate electors for their efforts in the election subversion attempt in July 2023. More than 58% of voters said a Trump criminal conviction would not change their vote, while 28% said it would influence their decision.
When asked if there was a silver lining for Democrats in this poll, Michigan Democrat and political consultant Adrian Hemond said there wasn’t one.
“Unless there is a fundamental change in the dynamics of the election, Donald Trump is going to be president in January next year,” Hemond said.
Until the morning of Nov 6th. Most votes ever cast? 🙄
So, Brandon is behind Trump 47%-39% in Michigan. All he needs to do is win 80% of the remaining 14% undecided between the two. If 2020 and 2022 are any indication, that should be a piece of cake to accomplish.
Poll numbers this low mean the democrat party will not allow Biden to run for re-election.
They will find someone better; they certainly can’t find anyone worse.
We need the weakest dem possible to run and that means we need Biden.
Dominion tweak and semi trailers of mailed in fraud ballots counted after midnight and before 6AM. History repeats itself.

The Left is increasingly getting rejected and therefore desperate, which makes them even more dangerous than they normally are. I don't doubt for a second that they will take things to another level to stop Trump if they need to.
These people don't play by any set of rules.
He’ll still win by 200 million votes.
Watch the poll numbers after a felony conviction and a large fine in NY for Trump’s “reported” poll numbers to crater.
No worries, it’s just that many more ballots to be dumped at the TCF Center at 2 am...
Isn’t Kennedy already in the race? Why do they say - IF another candidate enters the race?
Not to worry.
The Democrats will stop counting votes in all 57 states with Trump winning them all and come back the next morning with FJB winning them all, and to the DC gulag with anyone who questions it.
The Demorats cloud pick Mrs Buttiplug, or p0erhaps Miz Grandholme, or one other of those o Zoo Parade luminaires.
Then, there’s always Hitlery “cliton.
“The Left is increasingly getting rejected and therefore desperate, ... “
The whole cabal, leftists, RINOs, corporate fascists, permanent Washington... there is an array of factions against Trump, which means they’re against us.
Black AME church folks already game planning how to churn out the necessary ballots in all large metro areas of swing states. With the assist of the FIB no doubt.
Yes, Kennedy is already in the race. But actually getting on individual state ballots as an independent candidate is something of a labor-intensive feat in most, if not all, states. The "two-party system" is jealously (and zealously) protected by those who benefit from that system.
The cemetery voters in Detroit and Flint must be included in these polls—if they want to accurately predict elections.
Of course there is an easier option for the Democrats. And the real outrage is that the Republican establishment and the media won’t care if they do it (again).
There is no one better than Biden. True in 2020 true now.
Just the opposite. Americans can see this deep state witch hunt for what it is. Trump vs Goliath. Americas love the underdogs.
