The Chechens found out in the second Chechen War that you have to saturation attack a single vehicle in order to get past an active APS. They found you had to fire at least six heavy ATGM against one tank to get a reasonable chance at getting a single hit.

Sure, but the Javelin in the current theaters is not present in large numbers. Hamas doesn’t have any (though they do have Iranian ATGM) and the Ukranians have basically used almost all of theirs (remember, the Javelin line is now only putting out a couple a week due to supply shortages) and are saving what they have left. As a result, both the Israelis and Russians (as well as the Ukranians, let’s be fair) are finding way more free falling explosives to be a problem than a top down missile attack which is now relatively rare.

Also, the Javelin is almost useless in top down attack mode in most urban and built up areas. Too many buildings get in the way.

You can bet your sweet bippy that Russia is sharing all their data with their Axis Partners. Iran is getting ready for the “Big D-Day” landing of US/UK Troops on their soil. They are sharing there warfare data with China too as well as Kim in North Korea. We have become slack fighting 3rd World states and we may well pay a price for that in the future.

Yep, drones and missile swarms have done the same thing to carriers and tanks. A bunch of rag tag irregulars, shooting off $30,000 missiles, has stopped container freight through the Suez Canal. The U.S. and the coalition of “none of my forces” stand by helplessly. Carrier gunboat diplomacy has failed. It has been exposed. We have 8 more Ford class carriers on order. That’s the same amount of money to be wasted as we’ve pi$$ed away on Uke corruption.

Meanwhile pooty poot has stopped NATO ‘s finest in its tracks using cheap drones for ISR, for directing mass artillery barrages, and for attacking key targets deep within Ukraine territory. There’s a lesson there somewhere.

Russia hasn’t stopped NATO. Russia launched a criminal and brutal invasion and was humiliated and stopped. The eleven-time-zone country could not handle the one-time-zone country. The Russian pigs and apes still occupy some of Ukraine with their Mohammedan cohorts but their military reputation in the world could not be much lower.

This is a grown up discussion about weapons and tactics, not a platformm for utterly irre, event propagandizing 2 year olds.

The two year old is you. You admire “Pooty Poot” and use that term for your hero. I’ve seen nothing of military knowledge from you. From the beginning you’ve been a Moscow propagandist.

Sorry. You are wrong and an utter fool treading in a serious debate about whether modern technology has made tanks go the way of battleships.

Well, well, well…..you don’t say. Next exhibits on display at Moscow’s military museum will be M1 tanks and F16’s…

No tank, with however strong armor, survives a direct hit by artillery fires.

Ans this is an artillery war, which is pretty static WWI fare, not a combined arms mobile assault warfare. He who has the most tubes, shells, rockets, counter-battery radars, and drones wins.

In Ukraine most tanks are taken out by drones dropping shells/grenades, mines, and artillery fires: no APS system will stop these attacks from succeeding.

So if “Russian armor is far from the best” but its knocking out NATO tanks - then who has the best tanks?

No this is the wrong premise by the author - tank-on-tank battles are very rare in Ukraine.

Its mines and drones.

Some APS can intercept artillery coming in on all but the steepest angles. The cope cages are effective against the drone drops (which is why the Israelis have adopted them) - mines are a problem, but there seem to be promising electronic systems that can cause mines to detonate prematurely.

Lots of Russian tanks blown with cope cages. Lot of 155mm rounds even prematurely exploded by APS will heavily damage a tank and even de-track it.

The Russian cages seem to have been field improvised and therefore irregular in quality and design whereas the Israeli units seem to be quite uniform. As for the 155s, yeah, that can be the case, but it isn’t like they can’t be intercepted at a safe distance with some improvements.

As long as it is now an hours long barrage as frequently happens in Ukraine.
