I was struck by the 14:1 student teacher ratio.


That may not be as ‘good’ as you think. It’s not as if each class has only 14 students.

With 64% ‘minority’ that means there will be lots of ‘special ed’ classes, limited-English classes (if the ‘minority is Hispanic’), and the certified administrators to manage them. These will be funded mainly by FedGov.

The same is true of 51% ‘economically disadvantages’ figure. Schools actually beg parents to fill out free/reduced lunch forms just to get a higher ‘poverty’ score because the poorer your students appear to be the more money the school receives.

Of course all of the money comes out of taxpayer’s wallets (or the printing presses).

Yeah, I know. I was about to post on the magic 51% threshold. The town population is “ majority minority,” about 20% foreign-born.

The cliche Iowa...white, fundamentalist, rural no longer applies. Sam Brinton is a distinguished alum of this high school.
