PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A new law aimed at helping to improve interactions between law enforcement and people with disabilities goes into effect on January 1.
SB 784 which is named the ‘Protect Our Loved Ones Act’ allows local police and sheriff departments to develop and maintain databases of people in their communities with developmental, psychological, or other disabilities.
The listed conditions also include autism, Alzheimers, dementia, and Down syndrome.
A parent or caretaker would have the choice to voluntarily submit someone with a disability to the registry, should their local law enforcement agency create one.
Michelle Detwiler with the Parc Center for Disabilities says she feels this new legislation has been a long time coming.

I guess it depends on the use of this list. Who has access to it, and do process about being on it, or not, and the impact of being on the list.
Can trannies, lezbos, gays and other alphabet people get on the list? They are very special.
You see...lots of questions...a short time between Saturday night and Sunday morning...
Probably yes. The ADA is nothing like it was in the beginning so this too will be muddied.
The left is making us where we don’t see people anymore, but a category, a government classification entity.
Vaccination status included?
I used to be ambivalent about the Americans with Disabilities Act (and I speak as someone who had a blind father,) but have come to despise it for the morphing monster it has become.
Any law which creates “special people” is anti-constitutional.
The ADA was co-opt’d by the looney left. It was initially meant for those with physical disabilities that need access such as ramps, and nothing more. As you described it is a monster now.
As a Hawaii resident; also with a disability, I completely agree with you.
Smells like NAZI Germany to me.
The ADA is ignored when the left finds it convenient, and imposed harshly when they deem the need.
For instance, they label HIV/AIDS as a “disability,” with all the special treatment that infers, but then demand that the military ignore this stated disability as not a bar to service of any kind.
They demand to have it both ways, without blinking an eye.
“Any law which creates “special people” is anti-constitutional.”
This law doesn’t create special people.
It doesn’t take long to see the holes in this mess of a law. Not so much what it is as written now, but what it will become as soon as the left takes a grip.
‘Protect Our Loved Ones Act’
Cute, heartstrings-tugging name = red flag.
So then what?
Bang Bang!
Ah geez, if you had only been on our list...
GMTA — Hitler didn’t really start with the extermination of the Jews (that came later). Hitler started with the extermination of “special people” who were classified as “useless eaters”. This is just not a road we want to go down.
Are railcars and gas showers next? Expect a tax credit to euthanize your “loved ones”.
“Bang Bang!
Ah geez, if you had only been on our list...”
What happens when a person with pronouns wants to be put on this list? Who says no? Then comes the lawsuit as happened with the ADA. Suddenly we have a database that is filled with odd-ball stuff LEO’s have to deal with. It’s how the left thinks.
As a former longtime resident of Pinellas county, things have turned very liberal for the once quaint bedroom community county. Why do liberals love databases so much?
Useless eaters and defectives are always first in line!
