The newly elected Democrat mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, celebrated the removal of a Confederate statue in the city, which was officially gone before noon Wednesday.

Democrat Mayor Donna Deegan, who won her mayoral bid in May, celebrated the removal of the statue in Springfield Park, formally known as Confederate Park. The monument in question, “In Memory of Our Women of the Southland,” depicts a mother with her two children at her side, looking down at a book upon her lap. It was erected in October 1915.

The Democrat mayor, who said during her time on the campaign trail that she would remove Confederate monuments, contended that she is not trying to “erase history” with the statue’s removal.

“Symbols matter,” Deegan said in a statement.

The statue wasn’t about slaves, rather it was about the southern women left behind while the men folk were fighting the north.

They were fighting an army made up ,
in large part, by Irish
immigrants.

Now ONWARDS, to make Jefferson Davis a Republican...

Totally agree about the military. I disagree about males at majority- I think we ought to raise age of voting to an age when stability & common sense take over. I absolutely believe the military should be given the vote regardless & I believe public assistance should be abolished but totally agree with barring a person from voting when receiving it. I also strongly support women voting once married, noone under 25 or 30 & also land & property owners.

It’s sad, nowadays that we even have to say someone OBVIOUSLY needs to be a natural born American, pass history exams & intelligence tests & speaks English. I’ve never believed that a universal vote is a good thing. But I’m absolutely no more supportive of the idea of allowing unmarried, 18 year old males who don’t own property/ land to vote than I am of unmarried, 18 year old females that don’t own property/land. The only exception to that would be young military men. If you have are a member of the military & can fight- you can vote! 😉

i have no idea what that is. the least I hear about mayor Deegan the happier I am.! She should have stuck with philanthropy and her Run with Donna marathons for breast cancer. But that’s just my opinion. The republican party messed up in getting a good candidate to go against her everybody in town knows who she was she was on TV screens five days a week for years!
Happy New YEAR!

Yes, one doesn’t see many monuments to Sam Houston- who feared for the Texas Republic seceding. True enough.
