I’ve never understood this argument.
It doesn’t matter if someone is a plant or not, you can either answer the question or you can’t.

I don't care for Nikki Haley one bit, but there are many reasons given as to why the war started. Historians have been arguing about them for decades, and will continue to do so. No matter what answer she gave, the media would have attacked her, unless she'd said slavery. Slavery wasn't the initial reason the war started, although the left would like it to have been. They will push that claim, so they can label someone a racist, when they don't answer that question, the way they demand they should.
“I’ve never understood this argument.”
It’s a can’t win question like, “Do you only beat your wife on Tuesdays.” And there is no answer to that question that can’t be manipulated.
Liberals from the MSM get “what’s your favorite color,” while conservatives get unanswerable questions just to dirty them in the eyes of the voters. And if the liberals fear you enough, they start a smear campaign like the one they have done on Trump for the last eight years at least with delving into his private life and going after his family without anything but opinions. That’s how liberal politics is done. The art of misdirection. Read Alinsky.

Not only that, in politics you have to be prepared for all possible “gotcha” questions no matter who asks them.
“It doesn’t matter if someone is a plant or not, you can either answer the question or you can’t.”
That’s true. I recall that when Sarah Palin was being interviewed very easily on during that campaign. A lib reporter asked her if she believed in “American Exceptionalism”. She took too much time to reply. And when she did reply, it was weak and not really an answer.
I’m one of her biggest fans, and have been since the beginning, but I thought she should’ve not skipped one second before declaring, “Yes!”
Of course, the reporter was trying to set her up. Any answer, yes or no, would have led to a follow-up to make her look bad. But still you have to be prepared to give a strong response.
