This is my first Christmas without my dad. As hard as it is for me and my siblings, it’s harder still for our mother, who is having her first Christmas since 1963 without him. Dad’s days in the hospital and subsequent death ushered in a wave of emotions, memories, and ponderings about heaven, sin, salvation, and for me, fossil fuels.
The last item in that list may sound strange, but let me explain. As an advocate for the energy industry, work follows me everywhere, and I love it because I love what I do. But fossil fuels are not just my life, they are life-giving and life-sustaining.
After his heart attack, Dad had a cardiac catheterization to assess the damage to his coronary artery. A hollow, plastic tube was inserted through the groin. Then, guided by the doctor, it traveled through the blood vessels, sending back data and information. In this procedure, the plastics are made of oil. The needle is forged to the finest of points by heat produced from coal. The medicines used to prevent infection are petrochemicals likely made from natural gas. Right there: fossil fuels.
A stent was also implanted to keep the blood flowing in a collapsed artery — thinner than human hair, hollow, nontoxic, noncorrosive, flexible, and 100 percent made from oil.
Medicines, IV bags, disposable gloves, hand sanitizer, the port in his arm, the numerous beeping machines — in every corner of Dad’s hospital room were products of abundant natural resources, which professionals deploy daily to save lives and heal patients. And we take it for granted.

There is the "Petroleum Paradox" which cannot be explained at all by a sedimentary origin of hydrocarbons.

Yep, the science of the claim of "fossil fuels" is not settled!

Wasn’t it all a Rockefeller scam to increase prices on oil? That’s what I read.
I don't know. But ever since I started driving some 60 years ago, I kept hearing that we would run out of oil on Earth in 20 years or so. Somehow, oil is more and more abundant, and the Earth is replenishing 50-year-old abandoned oil wells.
Fossil fuels feed, clothe and shelter 7 billion people. Every day.
The end of “fossil” fuels is the end of food.
The Greens also have no clue about food production. Modern agriculture depends on diesel fuel to run tractors to plant the crops, combines to harvest the crops and trucks to take the harvest to market. There are not even prototypes of electric farm machinery and it begs the question as to how tractors and combines will get charged in the middle ofca field. Fossil fuels also provide fertilizer and pesticides. The green new deal would mean mass starvation.
The people who want to end fossil fuels use them as much as anyone else. They are bigtime hypocrites.

Read “The Hot Deep Biosphere” by the late Dr. Thomas Gold. He used to be partnered with Bondi & Hoyle (The three developed steady state cosmology). In this book Gold argues that oil has a nontraditional origin, comes from interaction with thermophile bacteria (Which exist! You find them around ocean volcanic vents!) and geologic processes. These thermophiles live in cracks and pores in sedimentary rocks. Geologic activity heat, pressure, etc mixes within the earth with latent astrophysical origin hydrocarbons to produce oil, natural gas, etc. Overtime diffuses into geologic structures where its trapped. The interesting thing is its ongoing. I think it’s an interesting theory and there may be something to it. He extends the argument to cover coal. That I can’t see, for one thing you find fossils in coal! (Note there are hydrocarbon gases in coal. Go up to the face of a fresh bituminous cut and you can hear it seeping out!) I might concede anthracite but not bituminous, lignite, etc.
All in all its an interesting book to read. The Russians are supporters of this theory. The US is very dismissive of it.
That's a feature, not a bug.
