Ukraine said it shot down three Russian warplanes in one of its most-successful operations against Russian air power since the start of the war.
Ukraine’s Air Force said the three Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers were downed around midday Friday in the south of the country. There Russia has used the jets to launch cruise missiles and guided bombs against Ukrainian-held cities on the western bank of the Dnipro River and Ukrainian soldiers who have established a foothold on the eastern side.
Russian officials didn’t immediately comment, but Russian war bloggers close to the Kremlin acknowledged the losses and said they could have been targeted by U.S.-designed Patriot missiles.
Ukraine didn’t say how the planes were shot down. An Air Force spokesman called it “a brilliantly planned operation.”
The news is a boost for Ukraine following a series of military setbacks. Ukraine’s counteroffensive this year was unable to secure a large breakthrough of Russian defensive lines, leaving Russia in control of nearly one-fifth of its neighbor’s territory. Russia is now pursuing offensives of its own, albeit with incremental progress and heavy losses.

Five Patriot surface-to-air missile systems from the U.S., Germany and the Netherlands are Ukraine’s most effective shield against ballistic missile attacks.
Ukraine has also deployed them at least once in a more aggressive manner to target Russian aircraft. In May, Ukraine shot down five Russian aircraft over Russia’s Bryansk Region, which borders Ukraine. A spokesman for Ukraine’s Air Force later acknowledged that the craft were shot down using Patriot missiles.
Developed by Lockheed Martin and RTX, formerly Raytheon Technologies, Patriots have successfully shot down some of Russia’s most-advanced missiles.

Gorilla® tape is the best!
You just lost 3 of your Krynky glide bombers today. Boom! Boom! Boom! Funny how the Vatniks are calling it the “Krynky Tragedy” and are screaming for Teplinksy to get the Prigozhin treatment.
Well, maybe they can press gang Denys boy into flying one of them there fancy F-16's!
This pic and "news" is from April 3, 2022.
This is at least the third time today this poster has posted the same story from different leftist sources.
Hey Marcus...how’s the egg situation in Russia. Any updates?
+1
Last I heard, Kazan is still standing in line for his ration. Lots of snow in Tatarstan, too.
Because they started with a lot of airplanes.
In the case of the SU-34, they had about 150 of them in Feb 2022. They seem to have lost more than 30 of them so far.
But that still leaves them with 100-120 SU 34 aircraft. What proportion of these are operational or have trained crews, who knows.
A mathematical mind is necessary to make sense of the world.
Merry Christmas
Put some Hush on your barking, little M-Tacnik.
Gluteus Maximus, you really need to give it up.
I have renamed him Gluteus Maximys.
Da egg man! Koo koo kachoo…
😂😂😄🤣
Its a good airplane and apparently a reliable system. The mode of employ of the glide bombs is also logical, given what they perceived as the AA environment. The Ukrainians just pulled a tactical surprise on them.
The USAF would likely have done a similar thing, using, probably, F-16s, with SDB’s (small diameter bombs, which are glide bombs). Perhaps the USAF can achieve a greater range for its SDBs than the Russians with their glide bombs, but the true range of the air dropped SDBs is something everyone has been rather cagey about.
Butt butt butt butt...
HONK HONK HONK!
You could always go somewhere else and post about tatting, or canning, or boy bands.
Youre just jealous.
