A new Florida law that requires small-town officials to disclose their financial information has sparked a wave of resignations from small-town governments.

The new law is called Form 6, and it's the top issue for many small-town governments across the state.

St. Pete Beach was one of the latest cities to see a mass resignation when four out of the five city council members decided to quit their jobs this week instead of complying with the new disclosure rules.

According to St. Pete Beach Vice Mayor Mark Grill, the resignations shouldn't come as a surprise to state officials. Grill said the potential for mass resignations was brought up to state officials in August. They estimated upwards of 40 percent of small-town local leaders could be lost because of the new disclosure requirements.

Here's the 4th amendment:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Is it "unreasonable" to require government officials to disclose their financial dealings?

I’m in the n FL area Gulf coast side and the papers here have several stories of resignations from elected office. This is having an impact DeSantis did not anticipate. We’re losing lots of good people and the bad ones will stay and lie.

Another aspect of this is jealous "friends", neighbors and relatives.

I order to afford to be a volunteer person you have to make some money somehow to be able to afford to do it.

Some such folks would have businesses making a substantial amount of money.

If the amount the officials make is known, their lives may become miserable. This will piss off the jealous types and have the parasite types hounding you for money

I would have to hire a lawyer AND an accountant to accurately fill out all that information.

No. We don’t need to know EVERY financial aspect of the lives of low level officials. Just another way to keep competent people from EVER offering their service for public good.
