California's Lieutenant Governor has called on her state 'to explore every legal option' to prevent Donald Trump from being on the 2024 ballot, following the decision to block the former president in Colorado.
Eleni Kounalakis said it was a 'dire matter that puts at stake the sanctity of our constitution and our democracy' - and denied that she was acting out of 'political gamesmanship.'
A decision to remove Trump in California would be hugely significant, given that California has more delegates than any other state in the union.
On Tuesday, the Colorado Supreme Court barred Trump from their state's ballot under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which prohibits anyone who swore an oath to support the Constitution and then 'engaged in insurrection' against it from holding office.
Kounalakis - a Soros-backed progressive who is campaigning to replace term-limited Gavin Newsom as governor in 2026 - sent a public letter to the California Secretary of State, asking for an investigation into her state potentially following Colorado's lead.
