Beware, Great Satan: The Houthis Are Ready to Fight! Are You?

Somebody at Houthi central command has a great sense of humor or has been chewing a lot of khat.

I vote for the latter, but perhaps I underestimate our friends who own the Red Sea at the moment.

The logo on the plane reads: "God Is Great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam". The Houthi motto. @JoeBiden delisted the Houthis as a terrorist group within days of taking office. Be sure to thank him and @TheDemocrats for their foreign policy https://t.co/ooNaeKtlMH

Jazz has written multiple times about the current state of affairs in the Red Sea and the feckless “strategy” the Biden Administration is pursuing. As things stand, the Yemeni Houthis are holding all shipping in the Red Sea hostage, forcing ships to travel the Horn of Africa rather than take a straight shot through the Suez Canal into the Red Sea.

It adds a ton of miles and time to any trip, not to mention costing real money.

The latest idea to deal with the threat is a multinational naval force to patrol the waters. Unfortunately, that plan has the serious flaw of requiring our military to swat down missiles and drones rather than stop their deployment in the first place. While ships might not be sitting ducks, expecting defensive weapons to be 100% effective is a pretty bad and expensive bet.

The Houthis wouldn’t present any threat at all to anybody off the coast of Yemen but for the support of Iran, and as we keep getting reminded, Joe Biden has a remarkably stupid strategy of trying to become Iran’s friend.

Biden was so desperate to do so that he lifted the designation of the Houthis as a terrorist group–something they manifestly are. It was one among many olive branches Biden extended to Iran, and as with all those olive branches, it was tossed onto a bonfire built of American flags that Islamists had trampled.

Iran is one of the most evil regimes in the world, and Biden keeps trying to become their buddies. The regime whose motto is “Death to America” and who labels us the Great Satan is hardly likely to reverse course and become a force for stability in the world. Ask the Israelis how friendly Iran’s proxies are. Hamas trains with and takes orders from the Iranians.

The Houthis can push their “Top Gun” propaganda because they are confident that Biden is a weakling who can’t resist massaging the Mullahs’ feet. In this they may eventually prove to be wrong, but there is so far no evidence that this is a bad bet on their part. If they can appear to force the Great Satan to back down, their prestige will skyrocket.

They will become heroes if they get a lucky hit on a warship.

The smart move is to blockade Yemen and strike at anything that looks remotely troublesome. As the war in Ukraine has shown, even cheap weapons can be deadly effective.

The United States has proven remarkably ineffective at nation-building, but our military is also effective at killing people and breaking things.

This seems a case where doing so might accomplish some good. It’s certainly better than just waiting for a lucky hit on a Western warship.

Don’t worry, Biden won’t let any of the ships he is sending into the area fire a single shot at the Houthi’s.

I don’t know why but when I hear the name “houthis” I think they must be three feet tall with kids’ show voices.
Just me.

Maybe the Great Satani will drop a few cluster bombs on them from his USMC F-4 Phantom!

I’ve been wondering if Joe has ships there so some will be sunk to start a war. Don’t have a good feeling about it given our “leadership”.

By any standard, the real loser of the 2020 election has proven beyond any doubt that he is the worst and most dangerous President in the history of our country!

>Biden won’t

Biden, like Cpl. Klinger, wants America to take a Section 8. But there is another kind of that

Article I, Sect. 8 The Congress shall have power: …
    To define and punish piracies and felonies committed on the high seas, and offences against the law of nations;
To declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water;…
What the Houthis are doing is exactly for what the first line was written to manage: Islamic piracy and extortion was the Fed's single largest expense when this was written. Hollywood style romanticized piracy in the Caribbean was many decades in the past then. Unlike European countries, the US never renounced letters of marque and reprisal by treaty, we just haven't used them in a long time. If Congress sets profitable rules for them and issues such letters against Iran and Houthis would our private defense industry sign on? Queen Elizabeth—the First—would approve. Might take a little Congressional diplomacy to soothe our surprised western allies. Although if it worked it would often be there € we'd be saving, unlike whatever fake hope Biden offers. And whom else could interfere? China? Might be hard to get a joint resolution on it through House and Senate; although offering a profitable alternative to Ukrainian war aid could make for surprising votes. I think all Biden could do is lobby Congress against it.

Is it time for the US Navy to unilaterally bomb the Houthis ? ? ?

Maritime expert Sal Mercogliano joins Ward Carroll to discuss tensions in the Red Sea caused by an increase in Houthis firing missiles and drones at commercial shipping as it passes through the Bab-el-Madeb Strait. What is the resonant effect on the global economy if ships take alternate routes around South Africa or wherever, and what is the U.S. Navy and NATO partners prepared to do about it? And why did the EISENHOWER Strike Group just move out of the Persian Gulf closer to Yemen?
