Former President Donald Trump is facing a backlash after calling one of the most conservative members of Congress a RINO who should be primaried—one week after the filing deadline. Trump blasted Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, on Truth Social after the congressman endorsed Trump’s rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for president.
“Has any smart and energetic Republican in the Great State of Texas decided to run in the Primary against RINO Congressman Chip Roy,” Trump wrote. “For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!”
Trump’s comments appeared to many to be off the mark, as Roy has a 98 percent conservative voting record according to Heritage Action, and is the only Republican who scored a “perfect zero” on voting for Biden’s agenda in 2022, according to Rollcall.
Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Clay Higgins of Louisiana and Bob Good of Virginia and then-Rep. Van Taylor of Texas each voted with Biden on 1 percent of votes in which CQ Roll Call determined the president had a clear position. Because there were only 66 presidential support votes in the House last year, that 1 percent equates to one vote.
Also, as Iowa-based conservative radio host Steve Deace pointed out, the candidate filing deadline for the 2024 primary elections in Texas was December 11, 2023.
“Is anything more Trumpian than threatening one of the only truly honest members of Congress because he doesn’t kneel before Zod, but also stupidly doing so more than a week after the filing deadline?” Deace wrote on X. “Trumpian bluster followed by a Trumpian lack of attention to detail.”

It’s weird questioning Trump’s judgment given the DeSantis’ fake primary campaign may be the worst GOP campaign in history.
and.......the people behind getting Paxton were the Bush clan and Karl Rove.
So Roy is one of them.
“I don’t see a problem with Trumps words or actions here.”
There is no problem. Trump was just wrong on several levels.
When a star attorney runs for US President, and he didn’t realize he was a Canadian citizen, I call that “stupid.”
Ted did finally retract his Canadian citizenship, though.
“Trump sure knows how to encourage people to support him.”
This is comedic gold!
Keep up the great work.
Same but for different reasons here in Nevada. Sunday's visit drew a pawltry 2,500 people for a place that could hold 20-30 thousand according to a local news report that was otherwise very favorable to Trump. That's less than 1% of the local area registered Republicans.
Like 2022, I think there are some surprises coming in the upcoming caucuses and primaries, which are still over a month away.
Roy talks a good game and presents well but he does not support Trump.
Maybe consider it this way, Do you know of a single public figure who previously did not support Trump that is now doing so, maybe even because of his insults and name calling? Just one please.
I like them both.
Chip Roy is a Bush conservative.
DeSantis to not be next POTUS-
$1567 to win $1.
Most folks call that a sure thing.
Well, it kinda is. Now I would never vote for a Commie Rat. But in general, just about everybody in the Republican Party has pi$$ed me off. I am a conservative and no longer claim the Republican label. But I am a staunch anti-Democrat. It is sad NOT to be able to find a voice/ leader that you can unequivocally support. . . I guess there is way too much money changing hands in politics.
Trump, in my mind, was the best President in my lifetime for regular folks like me. Even better than Reagan, though I loved Reagan dearly. Trump will do no one any good unless he gets elected. For that he needs to learn when to speak and when not to speak.
Roy has a 98 percent Roy has a 98 percent conservative voting voting.
That leaves 2% always in question.
If you go Conservative it’s a all or nothing deal.
If he chose DeSantis as the next President then Trump is right.
By endorsing DeSantis, Rep Roy threw in with the anti Trump clowns.
He should have stayed out of it because his endorsement of DeSantis won’t move the needle for the Florida governor even a tenth of an inch, but it will hurt his credibility in the future.
Too bad, I always liked Chip but this election really is the most crucial since 1864, Lincoln versus his own general “Little Mac”.
Any prominent republican that opposes Trump at this crucial moment in history is toast.
Vote Trump in 2024 like your life depends on it, because it does.
For or against?
