Former President Donald Trump is facing a backlash after calling one of the most conservative members of Congress a RINO who should be primaried—one week after the filing deadline. Trump blasted Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, on Truth Social after the congressman endorsed Trump’s rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for president.
“Has any smart and energetic Republican in the Great State of Texas decided to run in the Primary against RINO Congressman Chip Roy,” Trump wrote. “For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!”
Trump’s comments appeared to many to be off the mark, as Roy has a 98 percent conservative voting record according to Heritage Action, and is the only Republican who scored a “perfect zero” on voting for Biden’s agenda in 2022, according to Rollcall.
Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Clay Higgins of Louisiana and Bob Good of Virginia and then-Rep. Van Taylor of Texas each voted with Biden on 1 percent of votes in which CQ Roll Call determined the president had a clear position. Because there were only 66 presidential support votes in the House last year, that 1 percent equates to one vote.
Also, as Iowa-based conservative radio host Steve Deace pointed out, the candidate filing deadline for the 2024 primary elections in Texas was December 11, 2023.
“Is anything more Trumpian than threatening one of the only truly honest members of Congress because he doesn’t kneel before Zod, but also stupidly doing so more than a week after the filing deadline?” Deace wrote on X. “Trumpian bluster followed by a Trumpian lack of attention to detail.”

What am I a Columbia law school attorney?
Trump has never committed an illegal act
People would do very well to get this fact through their thick minds.
He’s been indicted in multiple jurisdictions and will be put on trial. I’m not “a Columbia law school attorney”, but juries are the ones who determine whether or not someone has broken the law, it’s not done through not public polling.
Trump has never done anything illegal. Get over it.
I’ll simply say that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there are going to be opinions which will carry considerably more weight than yours or mine.
That’s not logical. Trump never did anything illegal. It is a fact not an opinion
Agreed on Trump, thankful for Chip Roy - he comes as close to the ideal Congressman as I’ve ever seen, and is a 180 degree change from the corrupt Leftist morons that represented me when I lived in NJ over 20 years ago.
I would agree with you that Trump is, many times, unduly harsh toward his rivals. He needs to leave more room for mutually beneficial cooperation after he defeats them (because it won’t occur the other way).
OTOH, DeSantis blew an incredible opportunity because of his ego. Had he privately approached Trump and offered him his unqualified support in the primaries in return for being his Veep nominee, he would have not merely saved himself and the Party a lot of time, effort and emnity during the primaries, but he’d have set himself up PERFECTLY for being the POTUS nominee (and likely winner) in 2028. [The fact that both are now FL residents is an easy problem to fix, Trump would simply move back to NY, or to his club in NJ, until after the inauguration. Note that Dick Cheney lived in TX until about 2 days before Bush 43 nominated him; he took a late night flight back to WY and re-established his residency there in one day in August of 2000]. But getting back to DeSantis - he certainly deserves some of the blame for some of the rancor within the Republican ranks...but hopefully he and DJT can put some bandages on their wounds and make this a reality anyway. I think that it would pave the way for 12 years of genuinely patriotic, no-nonsense leadership, not to mention a complete capture of the federal courts by Constitutionalists/Originalists for the next generation.
Have you forgotten that Trump started the "desanctiblahblah" garbage in November, 2022 right about the time Governor DeSantis was winning re-election? Talk about bad timing and deliberate unnecessary creation of bad blood. It was and is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in politics, it speaks very poorly of Donald Trump's judgment, and it will have long-lasting negative consequences for America.
You don't Make America Great Again by trashing the guy who is actively Making Florida Great Again.
There's no excuse for it.
Politicians remind me of dogs. My dog sniffs a tree, and if he smells another dog’s scent on it, he wants to pee on it. On the next day, he sniffs it again and is likely to repeat that procedure.
The canine comparison is very much to the point.
Politicians also remind me of gorillas. They hurl theirs scats at anyone that doesn’t kiss their rump.
That happens too.
YOU started the thread so man up and man the ramparts!
The country is on fire, and being invaded by illegal aliens to the tune of 10,000 UNKNOWNS, or illegal aliens seeking entry as BULLSHIT political REFUGEES, a day. NOT the got-a-ways, which are another group known as unknown getaways.
Chip’s ahoy, chose poorly. Dumb ass.
Bobblehead wants it, bobblehead gets it. FAFO!
Sometimes Trump’s mouth is his MOST DEADLY WEAPON!
That’s a remarkably stupid reply. You’d have done better to not send it.
chickenlips tagline...
DeSantis gives you results
LMAO!
Let’s see what he does when he comes under attack like Trump, 24/7, by the deep state, over several YEARS!!!
Trump this, Trump that, the country is on fire and you’re bowed up behind your computer screen!
LMAO!
The commies have already breached the wire. People are being bayoneted and you and your quaint colleagues are discussing the finer points of Donald Trump’s decorum at some tea party soiree... He was a little rough around the edges, practically an uncouth animal. How dare he.
Missed - pinging all to my post, welcoming your derisive dismissive dissent.
Post 156 is my rebuttal.
Your boy stepped into the octagon and got his teeth knocked down his throat.
