Other than being an all-around ass, why does Southern born-and-raised Joe Scarborough mock Southern accents?

I don’t like Joe. But I explain: There is a region that goes from Jacksonville, across northern Florida without a discernible accent. Big call centers used to settle in those areas because of the low cost of living…and the fact that callers from around the country could understand the agents.
The influx of Spanish accents and ethnic accents have kind of destroyed that theory…but thats how it was 25 years ago.
