Some Moscow residents claim egg prices have doubled, as Russia continues to battle persistent inflation and Western sanctions.
Surging egg prices, against a backdrop of high inflation and economic sanctions, are worrying the Russian authorities, especially as eggs are a symbolic and central ingredient of the festive season.

In November, the average price of eggs in Russia rose by 40.29% year-on-year, according to the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). Muscovite consumers report even steeper rises.
"Before, I used to buy eggs for 70 roubles a dozen. Now they cost between 130 and 140 roubles - twice as much," Ilia Zaroubine, a 21-year-old student, told AFP.
"I'm shocked! (...) It's horrible what's happening with the prices. Not just for eggs, but for all products", echoed Elizaveta Chalaïevskaïa, a 76-year-old pensioner in the streets of Moscow.

What Moskva flagship doink?
Perhaps the most interesting question I saw in the extracts was from a young man in Vladivostok who asked about the Olympic organizations and their treatment of Russian athletes.
Putin’s reply to that was maybe his longest reply to any question.
Krynky is joinink Moskva...
Just got back from Weis Market, in York, PA, and 1 doz eggs is $9.29 for farm brown eggs. We last saw eggs at $4/doz about 2-3yrs ago.
Try Walmart.
Marketside Large Cage-Free Brown Eggs, 12 Count $2.58
Great Value Extra Large White Eggs, 12 Count $2.64
Great Value Large White Eggs, 12 Count $2.36
We haven’t seen those prices, since 2020-2021.
???????
Those are today’s prices at my local Walmart, from the same time as I made that post.
I’ve never shopped food at Walmart or Giant; Weis’s prices are what I’m familiar with. I will go back out tomorrow, after the Farmer’s Market shopping trip, and check Walmart’s out, as they’re just a couple of blocks away, here on the east side.
You can google your local Walmart and check their prices and also see if they will deliver to you.
Russia per capita GDP in Rubles was 40,272 in 2021.
140 per dozen of eggs when you make only 3300 a month is a lot.
Good idea; I can go get it, no problem. Thanks for the information.
