Sen. J.D. Vance said Sunday that U.S. officials should accept the notion that Ukraine is likely to “cede some territory” in its fight against unprovoked Russian aggression. The Ohio Republican’s remarks come as Congress weighs more aid for Ukraine, with Democrats calling for additional assistance with few if any strings attached and Republicans trying to link aid to more funding to secure the southern U.S. border. “What’s in America’s best interest is to accept Ukraine is going to have to cede some territory to the Russians and we need to bring this war to a close,” Mr. Vance, who opposes more aid, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “But when I think about the great human tragedy here, hundreds of thousands of Eastern Europeans innocent have been killed in this conflict, the thing that’s in our interest and in theirs is to stop the killing.” President Biden has requested another $60 billion for Ukraine as part of a $110 billion national security package that also includes money for Israel and Taiwan. “On the Ukraine question, in particular, everybody with a brain in their head knows this was always going to end in negotiation,” Mr. Vance said. “The idea that Ukraine was going to throw Russia back to the 1991 border was preposterous. Nobody actually believed it.”

The only saving grace to this entire goat rope is that Putin does not want all of Ukraine - just a slice.
The terms of surrender will be hard to swallow after all the death and destruction since they will much more severe that the terms two weeks into the conflict over a year ago but at least the Ukraine will probably not be over run.

They won’t. And the crease fire is meaning to be another Minsk style ruse.
Merkel literally said it was was is nothing but a chance to build up forces. It was a lie and a scam. Just like negotiations now for a cease-fire are designed to take the pressure off Ukraine, and turn it into what they call a frozen conflict like Korea. Ukraine will not relinquish their dubious claim to Crimea and the Donbass. But they are on the ropes right now.
The scam now is to get a cease-fire, then without risk, NATO led by us and the Brits, intends to flood Ukraine with all the military equipment we can get, fighter squadrons, as many missiles as we can buy from Raytheon, ammo, tracks etc. Then we will conclude a NATO-lite defense pact with Ukraine, if not outright membership. We would flood the country with advisors and trainers...after all, there is no conflict at that point, right? That will make any Russian attack on building nazi forces as an attack on NATO.
But we will not end the sanctions or return the cash, bullion, or looted yachts and real estate. We will not rebuild and restart Nordstream. Also, even if Ukraine agrees to a cease fire, they will keep up with the SBU terror attacks and assassinations and everyone knows it.
It is in the Russian interest to keep shooting.

Because he pays for it, that’s why. The borrower/beggar (Ukraine) does not set the policy, the lender (US) does.

Let Russia keep Crimea, and let them take Luhansk and Donetsk. Ukraine gets back Kherson and Zaporizhia. Everyone stop fighting and retreat to separate corners. All POWs and other peoples returned.
End sanctions, and Russia can sell gas and oil to Europe again. A percentage of those sales goes to rebuild destroyed buildings and infrastructure in both parts—Donbass and Ukraine.
No dictates on government makeup or alliances.
Merkel and her WEF EU allies “literally” continued business as almost usual with Putin after he stole Crimea at gunpoint including, of course, building the Nordstream2 pipeline opposed by nearly every EU country in the region. But don’t let the historical facts get in the way of your dogma.
