My job required running a lot of legacy software the was Windows based. When I semi-retired the phone I got to use was an Iphone (I didn’t own a smartphone personally) So when I decided to get a phone I went Apple (6S). From there I picked up an iPad and added a keyboard and use it like a laptop. When my Dell tower was dying, I decided that since I didn’t need to work with others I got the iMac 21.5 and love it. I like how everything works together.

My CD collection (all ripped) and some purchased MP3s was pretty big. But, as big as it was, it was only 0.0001% of what’s available streaming. Spotify is great and I’ve found all sorts of music that I never would have found before. The old iTunes Store did a so-so job of recommending new music and the old “Genius” feature could put together some good mixes from your collection, but none of those were as good as what Spotify has done.

I have not listened to any of my old ripped collection in quite a while now.

Apple doesn't know how to build, equip, and operate a factory to make iStuff.

It's not this. EPA and OSHA regulations have made it next to impossible to set up this type of tech manufacturing in the U.S.

Remember not long ago when we spent billions helping the Taiwanese set up a computer chip plant in Arizona only for them to leave in frustration because of American bureaucratic red tape?

I wonder how much of a kick-back the Biden’s will be getting out of this. Joe was in Vietnam in September to push for an increased partnership with Vietnam.

My first computer was an Apple. Bought it used from my oldest son who was an Apple user. It was a Performa 405. Back then they sold everything you'd need in a package. Since then, I've only owned Apples. My old iMac lasted about 12 years. My old MacBook Pro lasted almost as long. I replaced it three years ago with a MacBook Air. I'm hoping this is the last laptop I'll ever have to buy. They may cost more, but I believe you get your money's worth in the long run, because if you don't abuse them, they will last for a long time.

And my son who introduced me to Apple computers, hasn't used them in years, because his job requires him to use PC's.

I can’t think of a single metric that supports that view. Financial performance aside, the M1 CPU alone sets technology performance benchmarks that Jobs couldn’t imagine (but would love). A great way to reinvest record profits.

I will never buy another iPhone or any kind of smart phone if I can help it. I bought an iPhone 5s years ago, and only use it for phone calls and texts to reorder my scripts. I hate it.

I had a plain LG 3G phone before the iPhone. Always had 4 bars on the thing...no dropped calls. I ended up having to move to a 4G phone because someone in the neighborhood had a network booster that was interfering with my phone calls. The booster icon showed up on my screen, and the only way I could get rid of it was to drive down the road until it fell off. Back then you had to call a number to update your roaming capabilities with Verizon. The network booster wouldn't allow me to do that at home, so I'd have to leave the house in order to do it.

When I got the iPhone, I could only get 1 or 2 bars with it at home, and my calls would consistently drop. I ended up calling Verizon and complaining, and because I'd been a long-time customer (previously had a landline with them), they sent me a network booster for free, and I've consistently had 4 bars at home with it ever since.

Peter Zeihan has stated the most exposed US corporation to the CCP is Apple. Moving production to Vietnam reduces that exposure.

I found that reliability of smartphones depends more on the reliability of the service provider, not the hardware itself which is usually more than adequate for most customers.

Terrific. Sixty thousand US dead and hundreds of thousands wounded so Apple could set up shop there using cheap labor and sell their cr@p stuff here.

I’m now using an Apple Computer after putting it off for sometime because it does work differently. But I agree it’s faster and no issues as freeze or having to reboot - plus no worms and creepy crawly things...lol...mine is a MacBook Pro laptop computer.

The fact that I consistently had four bars with a 3G phone with Verizon, but ended up with only two bars with the iPhone, while still using Verizon, tells me that the phone is most likely the culprit. When I went to the Verizon store about the lack of bars on the iPhone, the first thing the guy asked me was did the building I live in have a metal roof? I told him yes, and he told me that I'd never get any connectivity with a metal roof. I immediately asked him then why I always had four bars with my 3G phone in the same building with a metal roof. He had no response.

At home, I always use my wi-fi connection with my iPhone. Spectrum is the same internet provider I've had for the 23 years I've lived here. The problem with smart phones, and possibly with the older iPhone like mine, is that they have a smaller antenna than a regular cell phone. When this one dies, that's it for me. I can't see paying large sums of money for something I basically only make calls on.

Nah I’m not knocking Spotify. I subscribe. Based on my playlists they recommend 30 new tracks a week. I listen and add the ones I like and it developed. Plus all the additional playlists you can find, artist recommendations etc. It’s a great piece of software (as is Shazam which can listen and identify almost any song and then you can add it to a Spotify playlist).

Was mostly mocking Apple Music. I do not subscribe and probably never will unless they buy Spotify. I did tip well over 1000 CDs back in the day. iTunes was kinda crappy and if you migrated devices it would duplicate your entire catalog. So I retract my comment about their software:-)

I cannot challenge what you post because I have no *direct* experience with iPhones. I’ve attempted to troubleshoot and gave up, much to the chagrin of people who assume that as a Software Developer, I must also be the Expert on Anything That Uses Electicity.

My own direct experience with smartphones is with android OS on Motorola and Samsung with Telus and Freedom Mobile; for *my own* purposes, Motorola phones and Samsung Tablets are the best value.

Your mileage may vary.

Glad to see Apple converts and supporters here…I’m not a fanboy of name brands but I am a fan boy of what works best.
