President Joe Biden released a statement calling for an “assault weapons” ban following Wednesday’s University of Nevada, Las Vegas, handgun attack.
Breitbart News reported that UNLV attacker killed three people and left a fourth critically wounded. And CNN reported the gunman was a “67-year-old career college professor.” It was later learned that the 67-year-old had applied to be a professor at UNLV “but was not hired,” according to ABC News.
When Biden released his statement, facts about the UNLV attack, including the description of the shooter–a professor–and the type of gun used–a handgun–were not known. Yet Biden pushed for a ban on “assault weapons” anyway.

So Biden will not have a ban against handguns or menthol cigarettes.
Those bans would be seen as 'hateful' against a protected victim class.(which makes it much worse than mass murder in the mind of a liberal)
Handgun? Oh you mean a PISTOL?
I never heard of the term “handgun” until the last few years... It is made up word by clowns.
“Handgun” is not even in Webster’s dictionary of the last 150 years but “pistol” is. No such animal as a “handgun.”You won’t even find it in the westerns nor B movies of the 20th century. Somebody tell these clowns that they are morons. They don’t even use the correct word in the Dictionary but change it to some stupid word. Heck you can hold an AR with one hand and bang off rounds.
Ban on ARs would have disarmed the officers who took the scum bag out.
Nowadays you can't do those things.....
We should ban DEMOCRATS!
Here is a list of mass murders from 1900 till 1999. Semi auto rifles have been available since 1903. Yes, 1903.
Yet the gun deaths do not really increase until the 1970s, after the mental hospitals were closed and the inmates dumped on the streets.

Now see how TIME tries to hype the mass murders from 1999 to 2021..

I should also mention that these links are only gun crimes. Richard Speck who murdered 8 student nurses in 1966 using a knife is not even mentioned.
He is finally mentioned in ...

Perpetrator
The gunman, 18-year-old Robert Benjamin Smith, a resident of Mesa, surrendered without incident to responding police. Smith was a high school senior at the time of the attack.
Smith told police that he was inspired by mass murderers Charles Whitman and Richard Speck who had carried out mass murders earlier the same year. Smith told responding police that he simply sought infamy and wanted to be known and remembered. Smith explained that he had hoped to kill ten times as many people as he had. It was later observed that Smith had become captivated with historical figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar, and later Adolf Hitler. After the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, Smith also became awe-struck by Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald.[2]
He was considered to have had mental health issues. As of 2023, he is still alive and in prison,
Handgun is a common term that covers both pistols and revolvers. It is an accurate term, not something made up, like “assault weapon” which was intended to have negative connotations in order to facilitate civilian disarmament.
Maybe I should just call my firearms “This gun of the hand” like that old Amish farmer did in the movie “Witness”. That’s what they are in essence in the sense that I must hold them in my hand(s) to fire them. A bunch of bullsh!t symantics is all it is.
Dear Merriam-Webster: How are you?
When did the word “handgun “ first appear in your dictionary?” Tthe word “handgun” does not appear in your 1887 dictionary of which I have a paper hardback copy.
But the word “pistol” is defined latter therein as “A short firearm intended to be aimed and fired from one hand.” p.642. I do not recall ever hearing the word “handgun “ or seeing it in print in the 20th Century.
Yor online dictionary Dec 7, 2023 , defines “pistol” as “: a handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
broadly : HANDGUN “
Your online dictionary defines :”handgun” as “: a firearm (such as a revolver or pistol) designed to be held and fired with one hand.”
An AR15 , any rifle, any shotgun, small cannons, etc., can be held with one hand and fired with one hand. You guys apparently do not know any thing about guns. If you go to the gun range and try to shoot a rifle with one hand it`s easy. How do you know what a gun is “designed for” ? You can read the mental intentions of the gun`s designer ? This is appears to be nonseense.
The one word “handgun” does not appear in 1972 encyclopedias. The term “handgun” appears to be a made up word by somebody to substitute for the word “pistol”. New York State has a “Pistol” license requirement but not a “handgun” license. NY State has a NY State Pistol etc Association but not a NY State Handgun Association” The word “Handgun” appears to obfuscate the definition of “pistol’.
Please fix your dictionary to reflect the true meanings of words from you previous editions. The 1972 dictionary says that “handheld cannons” could be held in one hand. Ergo, you are defining small cannons as “handguns”” Definitions should be concise and clear as to their meanings, not obtuse as “handgun” definition which is a recently made up term. This appears to redefine the term “pistol” ,.. Ths handgun entry in your diictionary appears to be to be propaganda. I am dumb but I aint this stupid.
viz. “Filipinos fighting the United State Army resorted to making their own firearms. This handmade gun from around 1900 harkens back to the hand cannon. The gun was muzzle-loaded and the charge was set off by applying fire to a touchhole in the side of the barrel.”

To reiterate, in all due respevct, your company doesn`t appear to know what it is doing. when it comes to defining firearms.
