A group of Jewish alumni from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology sent a letter this week to leadership at their alma mater asking them to offer a stronger response to the pro-Palestinian protests that have broken out on campus.
In a letter to MIT’s board of directors, President Sally Kornbluth, and Faculty Chair Mary Fuller, the Jewish MIT Committee said that they were “sick” and “distraught” by the “state of affairs” at the university and that the campus had been taken over by anti-Semitism.
“An institution that prizes mathematical rigor and consistency and physical and immutable laws is now wrought by arbitrary and discriminatory double standards. Law-breakers flaunt the law, while law-abiders are shunned and left to fend for themselves,” the letter said.
“Jewish students are blocked from attending classes, and fearful of setting foot on campus. Jewish employees fear bringing their children to MIT Daycare. The law-breaking and rule-defying is explicitly intended as a challenge [to] the presence of Jews at MIT,” the letter continued.
The committee asked leadership that rules about protests, political speech, and civility be enforced and that those who break the laws or campus rules be “promptly brought to justice.”

Frankly it has been shocking to see this at MIT.
Is “sick and distraught” the new “Never again”? I think it is.
This isn’t the America I grew up in and I’m only 57!
What have these progressive demoRAT scum done to our Country!
These presidents are selected by Search committees aided by professional consultants and subject candidates to rigorous screening. These selections are the result of those deliberate search practices and they are getting the President’s they are looking to get. Don’t blame the feckless Presidents for doing what they were hired to do by these boards of idiots.
Black Thorn walking sticks were for more than walking. And hat pins didn’t just hold a hat in place. Both were easily carried weapons.
It really has been. Makes me very very sad. Several of my friends at MIT were Jewish. They are probably more shocked than I am.It needs to stop now!
Well, how many of these people voted this stuff in over their lifetimes? Or called Republicans nazis? And yet we are here.
There were two grads from my high school class that were accepted at MIT. One I would call a true genius, the other just very smart. They were both Jewish.
Welcome to “tolerant” Cambridge!
I live in MA so know these areas well.
A tolerance that only cuts one way.
You don’t have to be Jewish to be offended and disgusted by the inaction. How much effort does it take to stand up before the student body and say this is not how a civilized society behaves and it won’t be permitted in this university.
Just another woke female president. Just like the rest of them.
Well said and sums up so much of the current woke USA:

You are not in 1938 Berlin you are in 2023 America! Wake up before they open up the camps or the Republic will be gone!

I am a huge fan of Professor Walter Lewin, a Physics Professor at MIT.
He has, or had, a wonderful YouTube lecture series that, due to many chalk boards and a great stage, covered the most fascinating world of Physics.
Physics explains why it is this way because of, the laws of Physics.
To read about MIT’s sinking to pedestrian levels because of “Wokeness,” is distressing.
Waking up is hard to do.
When I was there in the late 1980’s, nobody I knew had time to protest a goddamn thing. Hell, we barely had time to eat or sleep.
I’d wager most of the “protestors” aren’t students.
I watched about an hour of that testimony and was surprised that all of them appeared to be out of their element as university presidents. When you think of people in such positions you picture well experienced, wise, articulate persons, possessing and exhibiting good judgement and prudence.
These persons appeared to be shallow ideologues, poorly prepared and out of their league as distinguished university presidents. Have we reached the bottom of the pit in both government and education????
What is most disturbing about this is that it isn’t a one-off mis-statement by a confused individual, it was a position taken by three presidents of what used to be considered the best universities in the country: Harvard President Claudine Gay, University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill and MIT President Sally Kornbluth. Three very progressive women occupying the apex of the Long March Through The Institutions defending actions seldom seen since 1938 Nazi Germany. I’m not sure “progressive” is even applicable to this sort of historical regression. They all ought to resign in shame but none of them will.
