The Medicaid funding is wrong to begin with.

It never should have been established that the Federal share would be 50% of whatever a state’s Medicaid costs were. That formula rewards states who (1) set more generous programs and (2) have higher than average costs.

The initial Federal porttion should have been set as not more than 50% of the national median costs for an equal number of medicaid patients serve. That would put the onus on the states to better control their own state’s medicaid spending.

That most of all, and more than the many new Federal requiremnets that the author proposes, should be the start of Medicaid reform.

My wife is retiring on Dec 27. She has one more appointment on Friday to arrange the insurance converage for Medicare part B. Any phone calls would route to her cellphone. Unfortunately, that is by her bedside all night to capture her continuous glucose monitor data and alarm on a critical low. I'm not retiring yet, so the vultures haven't been calling me.

“All licenses for hospitals, surgical centers, RediCare facilities, freestanding imaging centers, private cancer centers, cosmetic centers, physicians, dentists, oral surgeons, physical therapists, and podiatrists will be contingent on accepting Medicaid.”

This would spell the death of private health care and pave the quickest way to a “National Health Care System “.
Medicaid pays at best less than 50% of cost. Our systems are overwhelmed as is, can you imagine adding millions / state of illegal immigrants using a payment card that has to be taken and pays the service about 30% of cost? Our hospitals are already going bankrupt mostly from Medicaid patients. Medicaid denies or doesn’t pay for so many services. This is a terrible idea unless we want our private health care system to go bankrupt. An event that would make the 2007-9 housing collapse look like a radar blip. Hard no.

In a couple of years the med beds will roll out and this issue will disappear into thin air.

Whole health care system will collapse.

It’s the plan Obamacare was the gateway for socialized medicine the democrats will never give up on the idea of full socialism.

It’s what the party is founded on

“Once a good becomes “free” then demand becomes unlimited.”

Did I write Free? Medicare isn’t ‘Free”.
It’s immensely subsidized, but there is a participation fee.
So many other models exist that are blocked by State Health Insurance Boards/Commissions in many States.

Direct Primary Care is one. Not for everybody, but an option for many. Teaching Hospitals and University’s often have local community care models. Kaiser had their own at the factory.

General health care for all Citizens should be a good thing, and something many hope can be a reality. As should quality education for all. An educated and healthy citizenry is a great core for a long-lived civilization.

The corruption that is Human Nature, from Moochers, Union Hacks, and Medi/Pharma/Gobbermint Cronyism is the battle.

Tragedy of the Commons is a problem when the cost of use is so low as to be essentially free. Agreed. Not good and always leads to destruction.

So too, once a good becomes too expensive for many to use, it becomes unusable. Folks go without and get sicker and sicker.

There are middle grounds to be established that can help to provide some options for our Fellow Citizens that don’t have any right now.

Medicare Part A is “free”.

The rest of the Medicare alphabet is not....

Medicaid is also “free”.

“If your fellow Citizens matter to you, why not have a public option for health care and services?”

Friend, if your fellow citizens matter to you, why not let them pay for what they need? Why not let them make their own life choices? Why not let them not be burdened by big government taxation so they can pay for what need themselves.

If you care about your fellow citizens, you would not insist on socialism.

Why do you hate your fellow citizens, or do you mistake supporting socialism as you being generous?

Terrible idea. You can’t force clinicians to accept medicaid just to keep a broken system going. The system needs to be re-written from the bottom up... without all the lobbyist influence.
