Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned Congress on Tuesday during a private briefing that if they do not
pass more aid to Ukraine, it would “very likely” lead to U.S. troops fighting a war in Europe.

We have treaties. An attack on a nato country would bring us directly into the fight.
“So, the Neville Chamberlain approach.”
No. Allowing Russia to expand its boundary might put Europe and indirectly America in a stronger defensive position.
I said “might”. Our think tanks can determine that.
Also, we don’t need to send our money to faraway places because of a perception that we have a mission to “save the world”.
lol. The Sudetenland is all we want , so ok.
We have treaties. An attack on a nato country would bring us directly into the fight.
Completely agree..we have mutual defense treaties with NATO member countries.
However, Ukraine is not a member of NATO and is not under the NATO umbrella...They are on their own....Not our fight.
Correct but no one is proposing we send troops to Ukraine.
Correct but no one is proposing we send troops to Ukraine.
Unless I mis-read the reference article, if the gravy train and congressional kickbacks stop, Loser Austin is threatening to send US troops to Ukraine...Our blood and treasure..Let Russia have the Ukraine if they want it so bad...And let them re-build the country, not us.
You misread.
“lol. The Sudetenland is all we want , so ok.”
Promise breaking is assumed for both sides.
If we assume Russia breaks this theoretical promise and continues its aggression, what would happen in that scenario?
Austin clearly stated that if the money doesn’t flow, “US troops could be deployed “.
Unequivocal. Period.
Yes he did, but he didn’t say to Ukraine. We have an obligation to NATO to help defend the member countries.
A little parsing but I guess that’s so.
But that is based on a, to me, ridiculous assumption Russia would roll across countries at will.
They won’t do that.
Relying on Putin’s good intentions isn’t a luxury NATO seems willing to depend on, regardless of how ridiculous you may find it.
“If we assume Russia breaks this theoretical promise and continues its aggression, what would happen in that scenario?”
I don’t know. One step at a time. For all I know, if we keep sending money and supplies to Ukraine, Russia might escalate. That’s what our Secretary of Defense says.
He might be correct, but I want us to limit our involvement over there and let Europe be more responsible for conducting and paying for the war.
Really?
Oh and Joe Biden agrees.

So what was it you were saying?
Ignore the fake titles and look for what they said.
So far this is what we are told Austin said.
“If [Vladimir] Putin takes over Ukraine, he’ll get Moldova, Georgia, then maybe the Baltics,”
“And then the idea that we’ll have to put troops on the ground in Secretary Austin’s word was very likely,” McCaul, R-Texas, said. “That’s what we’re trying to avoid.”
This is the quote from Biden
““If he keeps going and then he attacks a NATO Ally — well, we’ve committed as a NATO member that we’d defend every inch of NATO territory — then we’ll have something that we don’t seek and that we don’t have today: American troops fighting Russian troops.”
