The fight against nuclear weapons has a long tradition among the Greens. However, in view of the global situation, party icon Joschka Fischer is in favor of a nuclear arms build-up in Europe. The former foreign minister justifies his call with Russia and the USA in mind.
Former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer has called on Europe to arm itself with its own nuclear weapons. The EU needs "its own nuclear deterrent", Fischer said in an interview with "Die Zeit". "Should Germany have nuclear weapons? No. Europe? Yes," said the former Green politician.
"The world has changed", said Fischer, and Russia's President Vladimir Putin is "also working with nuclear blackmail". The arsenals of the Western European nuclear powers of France and Great Britain were not sufficient "as a response to the changed situation".
Fischer's party, the Greens, has been closely associated with resistance to nuclear armament since it was founded. The 75-year-old said: "I hope that America and Europe will remain united. But what will happen if Donald Trump is re-elected? Europe must also ask itself this question seriously in view of this scenario."

This German bozo makes me smile. It appears he is more scared of President Trump than “The Putin”. So, all of a sudden, nuclear power plants and nuclear weapons are AOK for everybody but Germany, got it.
In before the trolls/candidate advocacy posters quote this and claim "Trump's fault".
Sounds like people ought to just use them and end all the hoopla over nukes.
The people in the west have ruined their countries because the countries are run by greedy idiots and fools.
Now all they have left is to threaten to blow everyone else up.
The attitude is “Don’t threaten or try to take over what I already destroyed”.
