Polls Reflect Acceptance of Second Amendment and Gun Ownership

Recent polls have shown a significant increase in the percentage of gun owners, the amount of gun ownership, and acceptance of the utility of firearms for self-defense. Some of the increase comes from record and sustained high levels of firearms sales. Some of the higher numbers are from gun owners who are “coming out of the closet.”  They are examples of a changed attitude and increased acceptance of admitting to firearms ownership in public.

In the United States, gun ownership is the most widespread of any country on the earth.

Guns owned in the United States are seldom registered. The few states with laws requiring registration have large populations of resistors who refuse to comply with new registration requirements. Registration requirements are a recent phenomenon. For these reasons, the number of guns in the United States and the number of gun owners are impossible to know with precision. A reasonable estimate of the total number of privately owned guns is about half a billion, 1 and 1/2 guns for every person in the United States, and nearly two guns for every adult in the United States.

There are plenty of guns in the United States for every adult to have at least one. The question of how many adults own guns and how many adults have easy access to guns is not the same.

A gun in a household is likely to be accessible to all adults in the household. Because of the nature of surveys, a common question is: Do any of the members of your household own a gun?

A recent NBC poll shows a dramatic increase in gun ownership in the last decade. The poll was of American voters. The numbers are of direct political significance.

There are more guns because there are more criminals, and fewer cops. The US has a violent criminal problem...

Safety is deteriorating, so people want to defend themselves. The 2020 riots changed a lot of minds.

I believe it. I live in a rural county in the bluest of blue states. Our little county is as sane as you can be here. We have a conservative county council, Trump carried this county in 2016 & 2020 and we don’t see the kind of out of control crime we see in Seattle/Olympia/Tacoma areas.

However, when my wife went to apply for a concealed carry permit several weeks ago at the County Sheriff’s Department they are so busy processing applications that the Sheriff’s Department requires you set an appointment to be fingerprinted!

The sheriff sets 15 minutes for the process and the day the wife was there 4 others were there waiting for their turn…all women varying in age from 21-80! A very enlightening anecdotal evidence that women in my county at least, are getting equipped to be their own first responders!

The polls show what the pollsters designed the questions to show. They also show what those polled find trendy at the moment. The article illustrated a couple of the actual poll questions. Check them out.

McConnell, Thune and Cornyn are trying to enable legislation to stop law abiding citizens ownership, just criminals will possess guns.

Criminals and state agents.

There is a certain amount of overlap.

That’s great and all that but the 2A is far more than just a right guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. The right to self protect is a God given natural right that no one can take away even if the government SWATs your homes and steals your self-protection tools aka firearms.

Last I heard, regardless of what the man-made law says (if they changed it), that’s still theft which would make the perps stealing them the criminals regardless of the uniform they might be wearing.

So simple, even a corrupt politician should be able to understand it.

I believe a lot of people have realized the 2nd Amendment was to protect citizens from the government as much as for self protection from criminals.

The right to self protect is a God given natural right that no one can take away...

The government officials have a different opinion about that. And they certainly can take away your "God given rights" in practice.

Your rights are truly restraints on the power of government and other groups. Officials do not like restraints.

If the government will not abide by those restraints, you have no rights. Force is the ultimate solution for that problem. Lesser solutions include non-compliance and passive resistance.

Usually, the government wins if things come down to force. But not always. And there are costs to using force. Even the government does not have unlimited capability there.

I hear what you’re saying and don’t disagree but my point is even if the government takes a natural right away on paper, we still have that natural right. It can’t be taken away.

Any government that does try to take away our rights is pretty much a dead government walking at that point. It’s just a matter of time before it collapses which might be the goal of these nasty ugly gun grabbers. This comes from the rat party, aka known as the heinous Marxist party which are well known for hating America and the freedom it stands for.

They would not like America if they get their wish. It will turn into a real version of a bad lawless Mad Max scenario where the weak die or are kept as slaves. All gun grabbers and most leftists are weak so they are guaranteed to die or lick the boots of their masters.

They really should be careful what they wish for.

They really should be careful what they wish for.

The inner circle of elites is getting what they wish for.

That is a society where "where the weak die or are kept as slaves" as you say. The elites do not care if the result is a pile of burning rubble, as long as they rule over the pile.

Even worse, many of the elites have a death wish. The key factor is that they want to see the rest of us die first. There is not much room for "political compromise" in that direction.

They have lots of minions and supporters in the outer circles who do not understand what they are getting. And they do not want to understand. They want to believe the pretty lies. They are the ones who will be most unhappy with what they get. But they will still blame the rest of us for the results which they cause. They won't be persuaded otherwise.

I do believe the concept of natural rights has merit. Those rights are not entitlements. They must be asserted against those who would refuse to honor them. It is a "use it or lose it" condition.

Moral outrage over violation of rights is both necessary and insufficient to defend those rights. There are many intermediate steps in asserting a natural right. The last and ultimate step is use of force.

It’s time to use the 2A for what it is truly intended.

There’s no way we’re going to vote our way out of this mess.

We have a government that has declared it’s own citizens who are Christian and patriotic to be an enemy.

Because of the nature of surveys, a common question is: Do any of the members of your household own a gun?

The acceptable answer is "Break into my home some night and you'll find out".
