TEL AVIV, Israel — Israeli officials obtained Hamas’ battle plan for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack more than a year before it happened, documents, emails and interviews show. But Israeli military and intelligence officials dismissed the plan as aspirational, considering it too difficult for Hamas to carry out.
The approximately 40-page document, which Israeli authorities code-named “Jericho Wall,” outlined, point by point, exactly the kind of devastating invasion that led to the deaths of about 1,200 people.
The translated document, which was reviewed by The New York Times, did not set a date for the attack, but described a methodical assault designed to overwhelm the fortifications around the Gaza Strip, take over Israeli cities and storm key military bases, including a division headquarters.
Hamas followed the blueprint with shocking precision. The document called for a barrage of rockets at the outset of the attack, drones to knock out the security cameras and automated machine guns along the border, and gunmen to pour into Israel en masse in paragliders, on motorcycles and on foot — all of which happened Oct. 7.
The plan also included details about the location and size of Israeli military forces, communication hubs and other sensitive information, raising questions about how Hamas gathered its intelligence and whether there were leaks inside the Israeli security establishment.
The document circulated widely among Israeli military and intelligence leaders, but experts determined that an attack of that scale and ambition was beyond Hamas’ capabilities, according to documents and officials. It is unclear whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or other top political leaders saw the document, as well.

I strongly believe the government of USA, and particularly our intelligence agencies, are filled with corrupt treasonous snakes. Why is it considered “antisemitic” to believe the same about Israeli’s government?
Yeah, sure. The Israeli leaders knew it was coming and gleefully made sure it went off unimpeded. They carefully went away to some safe bunker to let it happen.
All part of the plan.
Some conspiracy stuff is real. Flat earth, no plane hitting the Pentagon, WTC demolished by demolitions, FDR knowing Pearl Harbor was about to get bombed, and the TicTac UFOs are all bullcrapo only a moron could believe.
The same is true about this attack. Serious errors in judgement and analysis, malfeasance, misfeasance, all undoubtedly happened.
But it’s very idiotic to think the Israeli leaders knew this was coming and deliberately allowed it.
But you go ahead. The NYT told you everything just the way it is, and you believed it. Gullible.
I think it's a combination of the bureaucracy in the IDF, overconfidence and internal politics (due to the protests that were going on in Israel at that time).
Nonsense. Netanyahu made his decision, even moved dozens of IDF units to the West Bank from the Gaza border.
At a minimum, Netanyahu owes an explanation of his rationale to the Israeli people.
Yes. But a lot of the material in that story is Israel only that the CIA would not see.
There are people in Israel leaking some of this stuff.
This was all planned and I don’t believe for a femtosecond that it was Iran’s doing (i.e., alphabet agencies in concert with globalists).
We'll find out more shortly. Bibi gets some blame even if he was not aware of the plan by Hamas on October 7th.
Those protests were a HUGE part of them getting caught flat footed. There were entire Air Force and Intel agency leaders and units that were in a near state of mutiny, saying if they did not prevail, they would resign enmasse. Think they were doing their job well? Nope.
And I would be willing to bet that a shocking percentage of the kids murdered at that dance party right by the border were starry eyed leftists who were drifting into that thinking that imagines Palestinians are victims also.
The Israeli left is responsible for this.
And then do not overlook something about “the plan” being figured out. At that same moment, Hamas executed a masterful deception plan. For months before the attack there was a big slowdown in rocket launches. A week before they concluded an agreement that the rockets would stop in exchange for more work visas and fuel.
But it was not Israeli leaders knowing the plan, date etc. And deviously letting it proceed for some Byzantine reason.
Not true. Israeli intelligence admitted they were “put to sleep” by Hamas over a 2 year period when it made overtures trying to improve the quality of life for Gazans. This had been in the planning for a long time.
Israel is a leftist country. Always been that way. But they did a lot to make their economy to become more capitalist in recent decades. But the people haven't changed that much. That's what Bibi is against in Israel.
“Hmmm...who believes the left-wing hamas loving NY Times?”
This is just part of Biden and the Israeli left’s attempt to get rid of Bibi. It may be true. It may be false. It may be kind of true. But its truth or falsity is irrelevant to the Times.
Posted earlier today if I can find the link
Bibi is in charge, so he has to get some of the blame. Because he retained the people who screwed up.
However it is complicated that the Israel Deep State military and Intel leadership were the ones that really screwed up here.
Bibi mostly gets a pass in this story, which makes me think he may be one of the leakers.
Makes sense for him to leak all of this. But still Bibi knew Hamas as the enemy of Israel. And he isn't new to the business. The buck stops with Bibi.
until we have a return to constitutional govt, please do not send your sons or dtrs to be fodder for this evil govt.
Exactly. The Kibbutz is pure socialism. That innate leftism is their Achilles heel.
Bibi is Americanized. But he's not going to be the leader of Israel forever. The strategic situation is quite bad for Israel. Even though they're technologically superior over their enemies. Israel is going to have to fend for themselves. And they won't be able to rely on the Americans to bail them out.

Yes. He is the one that kept all those Intel and Army people in place.
