Luke Eckardt recalled the excitement of finding out that Deion Sanders would be his new head coach at Colorado.
After all, who wouldn’t want to play for the charismatic Pro Football Hall of Fame member and ex-major leaguer known as “Prime Time” during his playing days and now just “Coach Prime?”
“It was a feeling of awe because it’s Deion Sanders, and you play video games like ‘Madden’ and he’s on there,” Eckardt said in an interview with The Associated Press. “You’re playing with a controller. Now it’s different. It’s a real dude. That’s what I thought at first. But then it was like a seeping feeling of fear.”

He is trying to run the program like a pro team. Which means being ruthless and cutting players.
I am not a fan of Deion. Never have been. But he has been honest about his goals. If I was a player on this years offensive line, I would transfer after finals.
His recruiting is awful and he had made decisions before he stepped in to the job.
I believe you.
He was rumored to be in the hunt for the Nebraska job, but the board passed.
I can see why.
He has two more seasons to turn this around. I suspect he is looking at junior and senior transfers trying to build a team.
If it works, you will see the acceleration of the end of college football.
Prime and his coaches didn't do anything wrong with this.
The two players in the article were obviously not talented enough to be in demand by Power 5 schools. Look where they ended up.
Life isn't "fair" sometimes.
Sounds like those two young guys are happy at the lower tier schools. Everybody came out good...
You liking equity yet?
Bunch of damned fascists.
Call me a rocis all day long.
This ain’t right.
.......I just sometimes wonder if it ever dawns on a European that allowing and encouraging this mass migration of low lifes who we’re told in most cases wouldn’t work under any circumstances has doomed Europe to a major shoot out in order to get these low life murdering, raping, robbing vermin deported.
I believe millions of people around the world are like me in that they have cancelled that one more trip to Europe in their last years on earth. Imagine the billions that will cost Europe.
Apparently you don’t remember or chose to forget the house cleaning Saban did when he got to Alabama.
But it is ok when little Nicky does it, right?
Sanders couldn’t take a hit and couldn’t tackle. Never saw the attraction to him unless one likes mouth. would have loved to have gotten a crack at him. A little forearm shiver would have helped his “tude.
Deon ain’t Nick Saban.
It’s funny you say that cancelling one more/last trip to Europe.
We had two picks for a vacation a year ago for summer of 2024.
Europe or Alaska.
I look forward to seeing lots of trees, ice, whales and glaciers.
He was hired for one reason (just like all the other HC’s), to win football games. Team won 2 games in 2022 so he’s got a huge rebuild in front of him. I’m not a fan of his, but he’s got a lot to do and a shrinking window of time to do it in. No time for stroking bruised feelings.
Shallow. Both cleaned house.
NIL is bringing the end to college sports.
Baloney. NIL brought the dark, dirty money into the light.
Nor I. There is no question that he was a supremely gifted athlete. But he was first, last, and always about Deion.
When he took the Colorado job I thought he basically told the existing players that about half of them would be dropped. That's not so unusual for an incoming coach, it's their prerogative to make changes.
And since their 3 - 0 start, Colorado has tanked, including letting Stanford come back from 28 down to beat them.
I don't think he made a single tackle his entire NFL career.
Agreed. Most programs are embracing it as the new way of doing things, and the others are being left behind.
And the PAC-12 is gone, and the Big 12 is a shambles. As always, money is the driver.
Deon was coming but they broke down on the way
