ATLANTA – Georgia Democrats scored minimal gains in the General Assembly in last year’s elections – and even lost one congressional seat – despite population growth during the last decade among Blacks, who tend to vote for Democrats.
But Democratic prospects likely will look a lot better after lawmakers gather under the Gold Dome for a special session starting Wednesday and redraw the state’s legislative and congressional lines on the orders of a federal judge appointed by then-President Barack Obama.
“(Republican incumbents are) either going to end up in districts highly likely to elect a Democrat or in a district with another Republican incumbent,” said Charles Bullock, a political science professor at the University of Georgia who has written extensively about redistricting. “They will have to decide which Republicans are going to walk the plank.”
The General Assembly’s Republican majorities drew the current maps two years ago in a redistricting exercise legislatures around the country go through every decade following the decennial U.S. Census to account for changes in population that occurred during the previous 10 years.
Almost immediately, civil rights and voting rights groups sued the state, claiming the new district boundaries ignored strong population growth among minorities in Georgia since 2010 and an actual decline in the state’s white population.

U.S. District Judge Steve Jones agreed in a ruling last month that ordered the legislature to redraw the 2021 congressional and legislative maps. The lengthy 516-page ruling specifically instructed lawmakers to add one Black majority congressional district, two more Black majority Georgia Senate districts, and five additional state House seats.

It’s happening in a lot of states. They know they’ll lose a fair election, so they intend to use the courts to lock in a permanent Democrat majority. 2022 just redoubled that.

GA is 32% black as of the most recent data. GA has 14 congressional districts. Using Democrat math, in which blacks MUST win the “correct” proportion of districts, that would be 4.48 (.32 * 14).
Negroes ALREADY REPRESENT FIVE congressional districts in Georgia (CD-2, CD-4, CD-5, CD-6, CD-13), which is 35.7%. Their proportion in the Georgia congressional delegation is already GREATER THAN their proportion of the population.

Exactly! The courts (and democrats) want to give minorities and leftists the majority by requiring district lines be created to do so. And that is although the majority of the residents are white and/or conservative. I do not see how this is legal. I know that each time my own very conservative district has been redrawn over the past few decades, it is has been deliberately done to include the most leftist areas as possible. Each time they do so, the rural district areas more and more seem to include a democrat controlled city to try to cancel the vote of the rural residents who tend to vote more conservative.
A vote was held—the winner won by 230 votes.

I’m surprised (not) that it’s happening in Georgia, the overflowing stopped-up political toilet of the South.
Republican Party better wake up and actually be worth voting for because they look bent over hoping for a promised "reach around" that never happens...while they end up wanting Preparation H with a feigned mystified expression.
We deserve better and that starts with the tough job re-establishing citizen control Trump started. We need him back in his office but having shown the way we who love America can get it done regardless. He's the main target but we are legion.
