The taking of selfies is now considered legitimately dangerous. A review by the University of New South Wales concluded that taking selfies could actually pose a "public health problem." Referencing data from multiple peer-reviewed studies in both the U.S. and Australia since 2011, the review was published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research in September of this year.

Woman falls 100 feet to her death taking selfie in Belgium
New York Post
Nov 4, 2021 — A 33-year-old Belgian woman plunged 100 feet to her death after posing for a selfie on the edge of a cliff during a trip with her husband.
Being retired means never having to jump through hoops for anyone but yourself. The only thing I use my cell phone for are calls, and the occasional text to reorder my prescriptions, but I can do that on my laptop as well. I got rid of my Spectrum landline last year, because the only calls I got on it were spam. I'd had the ringer turned off on it for years. Got rid of my cable at the same time too. If I hadn't had to upgrade to a 4G phone all those years ago, because my 3G phone was being interfered with by someone's network booster in the area, I never would have bought one. I've hated the thing from the day I got it, because I always had 4 bars at home on my 3G phone, but when I got my 5S iPhone, I was only able to get one or two bars at home. I ended up complaining to Verizon about it, and because I'd been a customer of theirs for at least 20 years (previous landline service), they sent me a $250 network booster for free, in order to give me my four bars again. There is no 5G service here, which is fine for me. When this phone craps the bed, I won't be buying another smart phone, but may go with a prepaid phone instead. I don't need to have internet access on a phone I only use for calls.
Same except I can’t stand to see my own face.
No rest for Darwin...
Not sure about a public health problem, but it certainly can be indicative of a personality disorder. Talk about your narcissists and exhibitionists! I like to watch YouTube decorating videos, but when I see it’s going to take some woman 25 minutes to tell how she redecorated a 2’ x 3’ closet, I know she just loves to hear herself talk, and I watch the “before” segment, then fast forward to the “after” segment, if I watch it at all.
We were stopped at a train crossing one day, when a young woman came sauntering by our car, on foot, glued to her phone. The train was going very slow, but she, oblivious to its existence, walked right in front of it. It missed her by about two feet. She never looked up or changed her pace. I’m convinced she didn’t even know how close she came to death.
When is the world going to reach ‘Peak Researcher”?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m applying for a fed grant to research that.
I always considered it an effective way of weeding out stupid.
I was going to say; THEY JUST WANT TO DEPRIVE US OF VIEWING THE DARWIN AWARDS.
I’m not retired, just tired though, at 62, I might be a re-tread.
I will be retired 20 years next month. I turned 76 this year. There is life, and enjoyment after retirement. I worked with several people who had nothing but the job to go to. Many of them had no kids to support, but felt compelled to stay on the job long after they were eligible to retire. I'd ask them, do you really want to die while working for NY State? Sadly, over my 25 years, several co-workers died way too young, much younger than me, and never got to retire. I feel very fortunate that I have had all these years to do the things that interest me. I also wasn't one of those people who felt they needed to get a job after they retired, in order to have something to do. Sadly, there are a lot people who feel that way. I hope that when you can retire, you will enjoy it as much as I have.
GMTA!
Good strategy.
I’m the same way with auto-based shows; seen an engine rebuild 100 times, seen most all of them, and the engine shop poseurs would do well to watch those other shows, and not repeat what 50 of them have already shown.
Keep your big ideas to yourself
Everyone can be a “researcher”, and “peak” is probably a long ways away.
