Our town had a tie a few years ago for city council. It was only couple thousand votes total. My son forgot to vote.

The city had no mechanism for a tie breaker. The Mayor liked my idea of a duel with paintball guns.

If the alternative is literal Nazis, I can easily see myself voting for a Democrat.

I agree. These voters are collectively the “Thank you, may I have another?” coalition.

Your right, no Republican wins by such narrow margins.

A Democrat is in the lead after the most recent recount. That obviously means it’s time to stop counting. The results must be final.

Begs a lot of questions:

Why is a recount automatically more precise than an initial count? What causes were identified for any discrepancy? Why is it that recounts almost always favor Democrats? Why do Democrats want Republicans requesting recounts to be treated as crimes?

The headline is misleading. The Dem is leading by one vote. The recount has not taken place.

Nickelson officially requests recount after appearing to lose to Whitehorn by 1 vote
Caddo Clerk of Court’s Office says recount will be held the Monday after Thanksgiving

CADDO PARISH, La. (KSLA) — Caddo voters appear to have narrowly elected Democrat Henry Whitehorn as their first new sheriff in 24 years Saturday (Nov. 18), according to complete but unofficial election results.

Whitehorn and Nickelson finished in a virtual tie. The two Shreveport residents were separated by only one vote, meaning a recount will be held on the Monday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 27), according to the Caddo clerk of court’s office.

Nickelson officially requested the recount Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The two advanced to the runoff by leading a pack of six candidates in October’s election, when Nickelson finished as the frontrunner with 45% of the vote and Whitehorn garnered 35%. Only 4,664 votes separated the two then.

As it stands, Whitehorn will succeed Caddo Sheriff Stephen W. “Steve” Prator, who decided against again running for reelection. His sixth term will expire June 30, 2024. Prator endorsed Nickelson in the runoff.

Nickelson previously served on Shreveport City Council. According to his website, he says he will continue to address public safety concerns and hold criminals accountable.

Whitehorn previously served as chief administrative officer and police chief for the City of Shreveport and as U.S. marshal for the Western District of Louisiana. According to his website, his focus is on addressing crime, initiating youth programs and jobs.

Almost 154,000 voters were eligible to cast ballots in the 39th Senatorial District runoff. Following is the breakdown:

Party
Democratic 70,699 45.9%
Republican 43,167 28.0%
Other 40,124 26.1%

Voting irregularities include 2 people voting twice in Caddo election
Ashley Latcha Nov 22, 2023 Comments
SHREVEPORT, La. - Saturday’s runoff election was a head-to-head battle for the qualifying candidates. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s race was a historic close call with only one vote putting Henry Whitehorn (D) ahead of his Republican opponent John Nickelson.

After a call for a recount by Nickelson on Saturday, irregularities in voting have been examined by Caddo Parish. With over 43,000 votes recorded, KTBS 3 News has obtained the voting irregularities sheets for 60 precincts in the area.

While there are dozens of irregularities, the biggest one appears to be that two people voted twice. Clerk of Court Mike Spence confirms to KTBS 3 News that the individuals voted in both the early voting period and the general election.

KTBS 3’s Jeff Beimfohr has the latest tonight at 9 on KPXJ CW 21.

The county Assessors race was aso close.

Assessor Caddo
Regina Webb (D) 21,056 50.28%
Brett Frazier (R) 20,823 49.72%
Total 41,879
1,362 voters did not make a choice in the Assessors race, which is not unusal.

Henry Whitehorn (D) 21,621 50.00%
John Nickelson (R) 21,620 50.00%
Total 43,241

Actually surprising that these races were as close as they were considering the Dems have almost twice ase many registered voters.
