According to this witness interview the vehicle was in the US headed towards the crossing at over 100mph and it lost control, hit a fence, exploded? making a big fireball, and that was it. No police, fire, or anyone else present when it happened.

This is a local news interview. The guy said he was walking with his wife down the street when they saw the vehicle swerving and fishtailing at high speed towards the crossing.
This makes little sense unless the crossing was the target? - he said no police were present.
