Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said his 2014 arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated was a result of police prejudice against him for being "a rich, white billionaire."
Irsay discussed the circumstances of his arrest as part of a wide-ranging interview with HBO Sports. The longtime Colts owner pleaded guilty in September 2014 to one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
When asked why he pleaded guilty, Irsay responded: "Just to get it over with."
"I am prejudiced against because I'm a rich, white billionaire," Irsay said during the interview, which aired Tuesday night. "If I'm just the average guy down the block, they're not pulling me in, of course not."
Irsay was asked how he thought his assertion would be received.
"I don't care what it sounds like," Irsay said. "It's the truth. ... I could give a damn what people think how anything sounds or sounds like. The truth is the truth, and I know the truth."

Well, was he intoxicated or not? What number did the breathalyser show? Seems pretty stupid to inject race if you really are guilty.
He wasn’t drunk, but he was under the influence of painkillers.
He may be on the unusual side, but he’s a huge collector of all sorts of stuff, often music related, but in general just really interesting things.
He has a lot of guitars from famous musicians, but has it all on display, so it’s not hidden. He has Ringo’s drum set from when they were first on the Ed Sullivan show.
He also admits to his addictions. He knows there’s a stigma with people who suffer from addiction problems. He knows performers like musicians, actors, and athletes struggle with addictive substances. He wants people to get help.
In that regard, I think his arrest served a good purpose, besides the immediate need to get him from behind the wheel.
There is a reason why John Elway refused to work for this man.
Or was that his dad, Bob? Oh well, close enough. The Irsays are like the Bidwells.
As opposed to a poor white billionaire?
oh well, a little rain must fall into every life, mr. rich man. just like a bit of rain that fell in the middle of the night when all of us Colt fans lost our team.
YES,he couldn’t afford a Uber!
Unless you're "marginalized."
it was hos father Elway would not sign with. And the old man was loonier
C’mon, Jim. Either you were driving drunk/impaired or you were NOT driving drunk/impaired. It’s got nuttin’ to do with wealth or whiteness!
I wonder how many times Jerry Jones has gotten away with drunk driving?
They will arrest your butt even if you are a fellow cop. Well at least they do since vest cams became a thing. Before not so much.
